Totally agree with Beth Chatto (coincidently just reading the Revisited "Green Tapestry") but wonder if you won't regret growing variegated aegopodium - I have been working for 35 years now to keep this noxious plant, put here by previous owners, under control. Not a huge success Grumbling

In spring, 2016 I had three pots of Bishop's Weed [4 inch pots] and I needed something along the north edge of the shade tree bed. Little clumps of it began to fill a "large" space pretty nicely... so I encouraged it.
In 2017 it was its most aggressive self...

In 2018 it calmed down some, and bloomed just a little...

In 2019 it looked very lush and had to be removed from small areas it was creeping into...

In 2020 it lit up a dark area...

The combination of shade, heavy soil, competition from the tree and the high pH of our water supply conspire to slow the spread of this plant in this particular location. So far, and I emphasize that, I'm happy with the results.

I agree - but remember to watch the other side of that paving as that competition (shade, tree roots etc) will drive it away from the bed, under the paving and into that lawn Sad

I've yet to see any Bishop's Weed popping up on the other side of the sidewalk... but I will keep an eye out for just that. Thanks.
Actually, I already have a more seriously invasive plant growing there... up against the blank wall of the adjacent structure. It is Chinese Rice Paper Plant [Tetrapanax papyrifer] and it does occasionally put up shoots in the lawn...

It is fairly easy to control though... and what I miss the mowing guy gets...
