I've heard people recommending fertilizing Semps, especially seedlings, weekly during the growing season.

My question is, do I have to be careful about when I fertilize them to avoid causing rot? I'm curious because Spring is a fairly wet season in my area and the soil never completely dries out so I'm not sure when it would be safe to apply liquid fertilizer.

I rarely give the established semps much in the way of fertilizer. I do treat the seedlings with Quick Start every other week at a half the recommended dose, and treat newly transplanted varieties once with the same solution. I have given the entire patch a treatment with QuickStart with no harm.

Helen Payne fertilized hers much more often, although she was trying to initiate offsets for sale. Stay away from the high N fertilizers as they will promote too lush growth and rot.

The thing that makes semps MOST happy is to be transplanted to fresh soil.

Thanks, Kevin! That helps me understand when to fertilize them.
Thank You!
