I have a rather homely old 6' high chain link fence inside of a similar privacy fence. Over time, I've acquired a few metal pieces and started hanging them on the fence so they would be the focus rather than the fence. Below are just two areas. I am having to paint some items rather than have them rust away and blend in with the fence. To that end, I have a few I'll post later in colors I already had. Any further suggestions would be appreciated and welcome. I don't want to rely on just a color or two. I'll post more pics tonight on items that I've yet to paint. BTW, all I did on the gecko below was finely paint some rust converter (mostly on the back) and repaint the tongue.

Here are a few more. Some as I originally got them, some that need a facelift, and some that have already been prepped...like the last two.

More of the same... Old rusty and a refurb... Steel brush to knock off rust, rust converter coat, then paint...

Looking good, @UrbanWild. I will make one suggestion as to what NOT to do: shade cloth privacy panels. When we had the really strong derecho a couple of years ago, having that on the fence caused the metal posts to break. It did look nice while it lasted, though. I've done planting pockets for vertical gardening on mine. That took a lot of watering. I have decided I don't really mind the chain link as long as what's on the other side is nice to look at. The chain link doesn't have much visual weight, so it makes the yard appear larger.

I haven't posted some of the stuff I finished largely because they haven't been out in final locations. I'll post a few of the tentative arrangement later. I'm struggling with one though. I've already scaled off the rust, and applied rust converter/primer. I painted the center discs and am stuck with the larger background disc. I tried using cookie wheels online and just am not sure. Below is a picture .. It's the larger black (primer) disc for which I'm struggling with color choice. Thoughts?

I like the black, but if I were to pick one of those colors, I would definitely go with the purple.

Normally, I'd agree with you on the black. But it will go on a very old chain link fence that is a dark rusted color. The reason I started painting the items is that rust colored to black were sort of blending in with the fence.

I am sort of partial to the purple so far as well but wondered if there might be a better one given the painted portions.

I am a lover of rusty trinkets to hang up, rusty tables and chairs, and rusty bedsteads. You probably already know how to brush off the worst of the rust and then you put a sealer on to protect things from rusting further.

I have been turning trash to treasure for so many years and people buy it and love it and say they don't know how I get the inspiration. Well, @Urbanwild you have the talent.

You have a wonderful collection of metal & cast iron, and Rusty trinkets. I would put a gold tone around that sunflower to bring it out.

You know you could sell all of Lovey dubby those items at a big flea market.

BTW, that Gecko is adorable and the Owl needs some big eyes painted and I would soften that green on the leaves with a sage color. Keep up the good work!

Arghhh!!! Forgot the owl eyes. Will remedy.

I like the gold idea and thought about it. But in practice here, the summer sun is so strong, gold is turned into silver within a few weeks. Even the winter sun does it but I can usually get two seasons on some bells I painted gold.

I think you should pick the color because you have already done an excellent job of adding color to that fence. Smiling
