This has been my dream for so long, even as a child! I finally got to do it now that I own a home! I wanted something that wasn't too wild or too formal, attracted pollinators, and had plants that rabbits don't love! I have sprinter boxwoods. Then the purple is cats pj's catmint, the white is sweet alyssum, and the pink/peach are zonal geraniums.
I wish they weren't so straight, but as a beginner I am so nervous about crowding, and I don't know what to expect from any of them. Anyway, I will be sitting at the window with coffee and a book!

Life is not a bed of roses. You have too many things for your first flower bed. Just do hard work, Hope you can get the highest level lovable flower bed.
I loved your location. Along with sunlight, especially nice accessible the garden location you have. For a flower bed, you need to make sure you choose a spot that allows for easy maneuvering so that you will be able to trim, it is ok. Fertilize and treat your flower garden without stepping on the fragile plants. Please design it before you plant. Next, think about the colors of each flower, and plant them accordingly. For example, you could group your pink and yellow flowers together, or swap them out one by one to create a really beautiful color effect. You could also group various plants together to make a nice textured effect. Different flower bloom choices are a very nice thing a nice garden view that blooms all year long, choose a variety of flowers with different blooming seasons. Depending on where you live, it may be too cold to expect flowers during the fall and winter months, but you can still plan a flower garden that blooms from early spring to the end of summer. Choose sunflower, Marigold, Zinnias, Cosmos, and Coneflower type flowers. Add some ornamental grass.

What an odd way to critique someone's first flower bed ("Life is not a bed of roses." Huh?) It isn't overcrowded, Jenny did design it the way she wanted it, and I'll bet she did work hard.

All beginners start somewhere and then build on their experiences and gain new knowledge each season. One wonderful aspect of gardening is one's ability to add and remove plants, rearrange them, or start anew as one's tastes change. This year: cautious steps, next year, a profusion of blooms from seeds. Or whatever.

@BlueRacoon Jenny, I think you did a great job. I'd love to see how it's doing a month later. Anything you plan to add or think you'll do differently next season? The bird bath is a great feature! Thumbs up

Jenny great job on your garden! I hope you enjoy gardening as much as I have over the years. There is not really any rules other than to enjoy yourself while you garden. The only constraints are the zones, and you live in a great place for lots of different plants.
Great job!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I did plan it. I spent hours researching and planning, and I intentionally planted flowers that would bloom at the same time, and would bloom for months. My garden is doing excellently. I will eventually add a picture. It is so full and beautiful. I have absolutely no issue getting in between the plants to trim stuff. Also, where a live, most of the flowers are perennials. I can pick something new next year. I'm not sure how I have too much for my first garden. Anyway, I'm very happy with it, and I appreciate the kind words.

Here it is! This is the smallest the geraniums have been in a long time. They have bloomed like crazy! The cat mint was also recently cut back for a new bloom!

I gave her an acorn for just the excitement she feels
Anyone dreaming of getting their hands in the soil

And waiting for the joy of a dream that's wonderful
I know I feel that way after many years and surely did the first year

I hope some of you will reward her with an acorn because she wanted to flower garden

there are not many younger people who want to plant and work and have joy from a garden whether flower or vegetable garden.

There will be trial and error
Plants that are planted not suitable for her climate
Or sunlight
She will learn it's a work in progress
So happy for you !
I chose salvias blue black and blue ensign for my more moist flower bed

I learned from loss that most salvias like drier soil lots sunshine and not high humidity
So we have the only two that I can grow here
Picture below of blue black named salvia

Phlox and clematis

However planted on the drier end of the flower bed I have a gorgeous butterfly bush grows no taller than 5 foot prune it lightly mid March here in zone
8b In alabama
I also have two beds of daylilys

I liked coneflowers and many plants that need drier sunnier soil and I did not have quite enough of that

So you will learn
Or ask us or send me a tree mail

So happy for you Jenny!

Thank you for the acorn and kind words! It's encouraging! Your garden is very beautiful! Are you saying the flowers I picked aren't right for my spot, or were you just saying that that is a common issue beginners have? It's a full sun location, and I read all of those were full sun. I also understand some of those are annuals where I live ❤️

@BlueRaccoon, Hi Jenny, It is good to feel your excitement even though your new flower bed is now over a year old. My own garden and landscaping around the house is ever-changing. Yours might be too. Just have fun with it and do what makes you happy!

We had boxwoods for about 20 years on the south side of our house. I really liked them, but they were getting too big and because one had a wasp nest in it and stung my granddaughter in the face, we got rid of them. It also means that I no longer have to worry about shaping them, so I am glad about that. I planted tulips and when those were done, I transplanted some rose moss and petunias on top of the tulip bulbs and my tipsy pots have supertunias in them this year.
