I have had a ruby clematis since 2016. It was in a pot until last year when it was planted in my garden. It has.always flowered well until this year. Now it has produced strange growths in all the leaf axillas. The leaves are healthy. The soil is quite poor. I have given it soluble feed and fish, blood and bone. I have added a photo.

Doesn't look like a clematis to me. Maybe something has taken over that spot.

What do you think this plant is?
It is growing on the old stems of the clematis.
It is baffling me.

Please post of there are blooms that open from those buds, that plant is not growing on a clematis vine, it's something else.
