Thread OP

Hi forum!
I am despertately reaching out for help. My dracaena seems very sad. Its sitting next to a north facing window getting part sun in a well lit room. Ive been watering every 2 weeks and repot it a week ago since the previous soil was very dry. What could be going on? Should I do something else or just wait and see? Thanks!

Hi & welcome! It doesn't look terrible at all. Give it a few weeks to adjust & appreciate the new soil. Try to avoid letting it get literally all the way dry.

My dracaena tend to pout awhile after a repot. Unless you start seeing mass yellowing/browning, soft stems, or a big leaf drop I think it'll be fine.
I have found that coffee, tea, and rose can all agree on one thing... water everyday.

Nice looking plant!

Agreed it's pouting after its transplant.

I'd up the watering a bit, short of that it now has more soil volume to hold moisture a bit longer.

Love the bright pot, but curious why you transplanted it just because it was dry. Why not just water it more?

It should be fine, might drop a few lower leaves but that's ok.

I repot it after I took a photo of it to the gardening store and was recommended I do it. Perhaps they just wanted to sell, still it used to be on the original plastic pot it comes, with the original soil, in an southeast facing window getting lots of sunlight and warm temperatures so I guess the plastic pot and original soil might have dried it out too much.

So, prior to the repot your plant was getting a lot more sun through the window than it does now?

Not saying it was a bad idea, it looks well proportioned now and should recover fine.

Sometimes people think a worried plant just needs more room when it's not the case.
Done it myself many times.

I think you made a good choice but still think watering was your main issue.
It might not be pouting so much from the transplant if it was a bit more hydrated when it occurred.

Just guessing, keep us posted. I love those plants.

I would put it back by the S window.

Yes, it used to be facing S-SW w/ lots of direct sunlight in the afternoon right next to the glass window in its original plastic container. I moved it to my N-NW window to avoid overheating it but I'll give it a shot back S-SW where there's more sunlight except I'll check the soil more often.

I tend to think I overwater my plants although it's unlikely if I normally see their soil is rather dry.

They're resilient plants.

Thought I killed one once, single stem with 3 branches.

Left it outside during a frost and everything just died, upper stem turned to mush.

Set it aside and basically ignored it, but about 2 weeks later saw new growth, watered lightly.

Got 4 new branches and healthy plant for a long while.
