Hi! Daughter and I were scoping out a new nursery, and she was stopped in her tracks by some kind of potted, double, white lily. It was quite expensive, and the variety wasn't on the price tag. It was still in bud, and that bud looked like something out of Little Shop of Horrors. It was easily as fat as my fist, and the petals that were beginning to unfurl looked like spikes. I've seen Polar Ice in catalogs, but don't know if that could be it. As substantial as the bud was, I wonder if it could be an Orienpet. Anybody know the one I'm describing? TIA

No, there was an open blossom in addition to the bud, and it was definitely double.

Thanks, will keep looking. Longfield has a double pink but I was unable to find
a double white, sorry. Expensive on some sites.

This search of the data base brings up just one double Orienpet but there are probably others. The Dutch just never quit...

On the other hand there are lots of double Oriental lilies; pick through my search of the data base for whites:

Personally, they all look the same to me. If you are thinking of buying, read online descriptions closely for details we don't see in photos such as light spots on the petal bases/fragrance etc. .

My best guess would be a white double oriental lily, 'Sita' is common as is 'Polar Ice' The buds can look huge especially in a greenhouse3, just before they open, as they have many layers of petals to unfurl. They are very easily found in commerce these days. If you missed out on that you can order from reputable lily company, as many places have these.
