Just saw this on my Hoya plant which I've had for at least 6 years. Been in a sunny window for three years now and I noticed this today. Love this plant for it's pretty leaves, but if it will actually flower, will be the first time it has done so. Excited to see how it goes!

That IS exciting! Congrats! I waited through several years & 3 plants to see a Hoya bloom too. The 3rd plant finally made some.

I know! Most people give me that blank look about something like this happening. Thanks for understanding the thrill of it.

Di, did this end up being scented?

These blooms are not the first time for this plant, but they're still exciting. Dripping with nectar this morning. This is hanging next to a hummer feeder. I hope to get a chance to see if hummers are interested in the Hoya blooms too.

Beautiful pics! Didn't notice any scent and no nectar from mine, maybe because it is grown indoors. Blooms didn't last too long before they dried up, but I enjoyed them while I could. I may try a cutting to put outside next summer if you find the hummingbirds go for it. Had oodles of hummingbirds this summer, but haven't seen any for about a week now, imagine that they are already on their trip south for the winter.

I can't detect much scent from mine and if I get too close, I'll have sticky stuff all over my nose. I'll be doing my usual porch sitting on Saturday. Will report any hummer activity with the Hoya if I see any. ; )

My fav thing about these flowers is how they look so fake. That is so intriguing to me, right after the dusty rose/mauve color.

Di, Congratulations on the first blooms of your Krimson Queen Hoya (Hoya carnosa 'Tricolor') ???

I'm in Florida and to induce flowering, I use a bloom booster fertilizer (usually from late April through early to mid-October), at half the recommended strength listed on the package.

If you hang your Hoya outdoors in bright shade during the warm months, hummingbirds will definitely visit the blooms!

They also enjoy just perching and resting on the thin vines.

I just purchased this Hoya in July and was told it may not flower for years. I was overjoyed then these perfect little white flowers popped out!

@Regphalang, do you have any photos to share?? Sometimes Hoyas can be very slow to produce blooms and it's always exciting to get that first show!

Aww, thank you Tiffany. My Hoyas now reside inside the screened pool enclosure. I've been so tempted to move them back out for the hummers to enjoy; (I spotted the first hummingbird of the season a couple of weeks ago) but unfortunately we have hundreds of squirrels that like to destroy plants that are hanging in the trees. How awesome! They really do seem to love those blooms!

You're right, squirrels assume pots hanging in trees were put there for them.

Wow, hard to believe that you are just starting your hummingbird season. Hope the babies that were born here have made it safe and sound to wherever they are heading.

I did not see any hummers taking an interest, so far, but did see several kinds of wasps or hornets paying a lot of attention to these blooms. It looks like it will be my plants' best crop of blooms yet. About 10 that are noticeable and a few more still in the tiny, weird looking stages.

Lin, I forgot to ask. When were those pics? What month? Do Hoyas bloom at a particular time where you are, or more than once per year?

Tiffany, those pictures were all taken during late summer-early fall time frame. Most of my Hoyas nowadays seem to bloom during the summer months, with the exception of Hoya australis which seems to always bloom during December and January. One time I had a few Hoya lacunosa plants that would bloom off and on year-round.

We were doing Hurricane Prep all day today (moving plants, patio furniture, etc.) and I noticed a bloom umbel on Hoya cumingiana with a few ants enjoying the nectar.

That's so pretty! The leaves look amazing too.

I hope you don't get anything dangerous, Lin! Saw a tornado warning near you on weather channel this morning.
