Hello

It's been a rainy weekend in Charlotte NC. Today morning I noticed these lime yellow dots all over the cloth bag pot and at the base stem of my potted Hibiscus plant. Never seen something like this before. Please see pictures. Any advice? Thanks.

Not eggs, fungus. Yours is an exceptional growth but it won't hurt your plant. You can wipe it off. However, I'm not sure if the slime that appear to be oozing from the trunk is related or something separate.

I am not sure I am convinced that this is fungus. These are neatly spaced, has a pattern and are up the stems and on a few leaves.

Can you give us focused close-ups of the speckles on the leaves?

If I were convinced I had that many insect eggs on my plant, I'd be removing them ASAP before they hatched into an infestation. You can later ID from the pictures. I do think it's one of many types of slime mold, but maybe others have a different opinion.

Please see these closeup pics. With the sun out for a few hours now, the white dots are now brownish. The oozy substance appeared to hardened. So is this really some kind of fungus? Curious how it even spread to leaves.

I think its fungus. In the first close up photo you can see how it is forming threads, eggs don't do that. The mass coming from the plant stem is definitely not an egg sac.

I'd clean up as much of it as you can. A simple jet of water from the hose will clean up a lot of the mess.

And then I'd wonder where the mass coming from the stem originated. Is the stem cracked? Have you had a really wet couple of weeks?

I will take a look at the stem. It has only been raining for couple days. Nothing unusual. Thanks.

If it degrades in sunlight, a sure sign of mold/fungus. These organisms feed on decaying organic matter but often signal excessively wet conditions.

Sorry, I can't see what's on the leaves. The ooze from the stem is almost similar to slime flux aka bacterial wetwood, but the wrong color.
