Wow, just wow.

Fred, your Lillian's Frilly Lilly x Tuscan Summer sib #2 is super, and Mango Sundae x Hb42
has been my favorite since I first saw it, and just look at it now. My goodness, it is so lovely.

Michele, I love your Bama Sunshine x Happy Happy. That one turned out great as did
the Sense of Wonder cross. Have to say it again, just wow, since that is what I said out
loud to my monitor when I looked at the photos.

Fred - All five of those are winners in my book. The Mango Sundae baby sure has ruffles to spare. Those sepals don't spoil the look for me. I hope you will post more photos of it later in the season.

Michele - Bama Sunshine X Happy Happy has the look of a finished flower. Happy Happy does nothing for me, but your seedling captivates me!

Thanks everyone.

Yes Leslie the HH seedling is a keeper if it keeps doing what it's doing. I pulled it last year to evaluate more and so far I am pleased with it.

Fred,
love the Emerald starburst x Aldersgatr seedling!!
I keep playing with Aldersgate trying to get its size on a northern hardy bloom/plant. Have several that should bloom this year.

Also several seedlings with your Lillian's Alabama Sunrise to bloom this year. LAS is one of my absolute favorite blooms every year.

Saw this from across the yard. It really stood out. Not unique enough to keep but it was fun to see a new seedling.

I think that with that much difference, maybe, someone Whistling unknowningly drops a seed from one pod to another. I just find it hard to wrap my mind around that much difference. Now, Michele, don't think that you could do such a thing, but if it was mine, I'd just swear that's what I did.

On to the DD seedling. It's awesome!!!!

Mona, yes if it wasn't me handling my seeds I would think the same thing. I am so careful about tagging when pollinating and keeping the pods seperate and the seeds seperate. Not to say I can't make mistakes but I have thrown out whole seed pods because I forgot to write the parent on my collection cup and with tons of pods collected I couldn't be sure what it was.

I looked back at the parentage of the parents some. GSTQ has mainly eyed ones in its line. It does have seedlings in it that doesn't list parents so who knows what they are.
Casper's Revenge has non-eyed in its line like Fantastic Fringe which it's parents are Winter Memories x Lace Cookies ( listed on Salter's old website). Those 2 are non-eyed also. So it is quite possible to get that non-eyed daylily.

I had a seedling last year that was out of 2 of Fred's eyed daylilies and it had no eye either so I know it happens.

I hardly ever flag a seedling to keep before I see it
rebloom, but there are a few exceptions because of
the branching on the first scape. This has the scape
and a bloom with a somewhat different color.

Michele, that's one of the facts about daylily seedlings that always keeps life interesting for us. The seedling can be totally different than any of it's bloodline. That's why we have Christmas morning everyday of seedling bloom.

Fred, I love the Keep on Dreaming seedling and LSTF seedling.

Just for contrast ---
Here is a shot of my seedlings that I took today. The seed was planted in the fall of 2010. That means this will be their 3rd summer. Does not look like any will be big enough to bloom this year. Seedlings in the foreground, and you can see regular size daylilies across the aisle in the background. Please excuse the pink tape around the bed - the new rescue dog is still learning not to walk in the flower beds, and the pink tape keeps her out. I did give the babies a drink of Miracle Grow for Lawns the other day. I'm not able to water them daily, or do a lot of special care. Last summer it was so hot and dry, and grass got going in there. It was over a foot high with grass. I sprayed Grass-be-gone in it and it killed all the grass and didn't seem to harm the daylilies at all. So --- by the time any seedlings bloom at my house - I know the plants are tough! Whistling

They would be this size at 6 weeks old if they lived in Fred's garden...

They sure look healthy Juli, and it must take lots of patience to wait that long to see them bloom. Some of mine takes two years to bloom even though they are large enough the first year. I will make very few seed this year, with this wet, cool weather and this Regional coming up I could not get motivated so I have run out of time.
This is a two year old I flaged to look at another year, has a great scape.

I'm really liking anything pink and with such a pretty eye, your first one is great!!!

Fred, I'm pretty much thinking the same way. I worked way too hard last summer. It was a prefect year for growing seed and I set seed on everything around. This year, I'm going to enjoy and set some seeds but I hope to be a little more selective. I really think our weather is going to go from cool to 100 and that will really reduce seed setting around here. We'll see. Maybe I will get a burst of energy from somewhere and maybe you will find an extra 8 hours in a day.
