Patty said:I checked out a bunch of pics on ATP and other sites and I believe it is Red Lion. The semp right beside it (not in pic) is very large and looks like RL... it has beautiful colors and one of my favorites. Thanks Twit! My friend recently moved back to Alaska and doesn't have email so far Thumbs down I'll send another snail mail.

Patty, is the leaves on your striped 1's the same width & shape of the Red Lion? Looks to me like they are, so prob is a RL Variegated. My striped 1's have much thinner leaves than either of the Red Lion that i have now. closest thing to the 1 i have had for a long time is the New Rhumba on SMG now. the leaves are long & lance shaped.
heres 2 of mine now.

I love both your crested Fuzzy Wuzzy and your New Rhumba.
New Rhumba's leaves are so different, very thin for their length and fragile. Mine is starting to make offsets. It will be interesting to see if they look like mama.

Early this spring, I sorted out my Fame Monstrose and replanted them. I pulled out all the normal looking ones (regular S Fame, I guess???) from the Monstrose ones, specifically dividing into two containers those that were Monstrose two generations in a row and those that skipped either one generation or the other. The idea is to try to stabilize further the Monstrose line so that it will always produce Monstrose offsets. This will, of course, be a long term experiment.

I've noticed that my largest Monstrose rosette has developed some bizarre tips on the ends of its leaves, almost cresting-like, with various protrusions and structures (bumps?), albeit relatively short. I seem to recall one other rosette doing this the year before it died, so I'm speculating that this might be related to monocarpic flowering. I'm predicting that this rosette will die at the end of the year or early next spring. I am however also considering dividing it and not sure which I will do. These unusual leaves seem to most emerge from the center of the rosette.

Here's some pics.

Wow, that is interesting twit. I wonder if it comes with old age?

I only kept my Monstrose type rosettes from last summer. But every one of the rosettes reverted to normal type rosettes during the winter. I didn't know they could do that. I am hoping that they will revert back to the Monstrose leaves as the weather warms up. You know, kind of like Oddity can do?

Some Fame Monstrose alternate generations between normal form and Monstrose form. Also, sometimes an offset will be normal then convert to the Monstrose form when it gets to be 1-2" I have not noticed any Monstrose forms reverting back to normal forms, so don't know the answer on that.

I don't think I've ever had an Oddity revert to normal either.

Thanks for the encouragement.

This rosette was originally a regular leaved semp. Nice, long flat leaves. The last month it started this process of reverting to the Oddity form. Some of the leaves even appear to be double tubes, instead of single tubes.

I wanted to update you all with the status of my S. Sopa crested. It survived the winter and has put out new growth that looks like it could be a crested offset. I did not catch it early enough to notice if it produced a short stolon or if its just an extension of the initial crested rosette, but it does look to be a natural division point. When it gets a little larger, I think I'm going to take a closer look and divide it.

Some pics:
