I have 5 weigela two 1 gallon and three 2 gallon pots in my garage, madly leafing out. As we are still having temps dropping below freezing at night, I am worried about putting them outside. Anyone have any info? All the web searches I've seen so far say, 1; they should be planted in the fall, 2; they should get full sun, mine are going to get afternoon sun as they're going on the west/northwest side of my house! These will be foundation plants. They are Sonic Bloom varieties Pure Pink and Red.

It was a greenhouse grown plant. As long as the soil is not frozen it is safe to plant them now. I have several wisterias in zone 8 snow and icy winters for many years…or just leave it in the pot until it's safe to plant keep it trimmed back to produce flower buds. See wiateria pruning on you tube videos. It will send up flower buds if it is pruned properly when planted.

Put them in the ground and if you are concerned about cold, throw sheets or comforters over them if you think it is too cold at night.

Thanks, Yeah, I finished digging the holes and pulling out more of those deep rooted weeds and bought soil to mix in since this is mostly clay. I'll plant them in a couple days after these 2 or 3 freezing nights pass. I've got old sheets and blankets.
