Sorry forgot to put the name. Ferraria crispa var. nortieri it is a South African bulb. They happen to be my favorites because they are dormant during our super hot summers!! That means I do not have to water them.

Polly, most things are a few weeks ahead here this year, and I've seen some odd reversals of bloom times too. I was shocked to feel bloom stalks developing in the LA Irises, it's typically around Memorial Day when I see that. I haven't even seen frost since March. Tender bulbs that I took chances with leaving them in the ground are sprouting now, and typically the ground isn't warm enough to wake them up till the end of May. I've noticed Cannas, Dahlias, and Callas (both aethopica and rehmannii types) emerging this week.

Bloom size is around the size of a 50 cent piece maybe a little bigger. It is fragrant too.

I checked out some records of past season allium bloom appearance: 5-8-08 : 5-18-09 : 4-19-10 : 4-29-11 - appears this year's manifestation is neither earliest or latest.
