I was one of the first 300 contributors to the plant database! Plant Identifier

It was up 8 inches or so and then we got a hard freeze. Will it bloom this year? I suspect the blooms are already in there and got froze. I dont' remember the name of it right off but it gets tall.

It doesn't look good but I wouldn't give up. If it doesn't bloom this year it should next year, barring a repeat cold event.

That's what I thought, probably a gonner for this year. Would planting them deeper keep them from coming up as early?

You don't want to plant it deeper than 8 inches, from the soil surface to the bottom of the bulb, unless you have good drainage below that - a rarity unless you are in sand. But putting lots of mulch over it AFTER the ground has become its coldest will certainly help slow spring growth by keeping the ground cold. This means putting mulch on in mid January. Or, if you can transplant it to a place where it gets shade in the spring, like a north slope, or the north side of evergreens.
