Hi, first post and hoping for some advice on a ponytail palm that's really not well.
My dad gave me a ponytail palm about 20 years ago, which I pretty much neglected apart from watering (over watering, for the most part). I decided to show it some love about two months ago and repotted it to from a 6" to a 7" pot as it was completely potbound. I followed a couple of instructional videos on how to open up the root ball and picked out some of the stones I'd apparently put in the old pot for drainage back in the day. Then used cactus and succulent soil to repot, watered with a little ordinary houseplant food, and returned it to its previous position where it had been reasonably happy. I'm not sure whether I sufficiently filled the void in the root ball where the old potting mix fell out, though.
About two hours later, I could swear that some of the new leaves had become much paler in colour. And although I'm definitely not overwatering now (about once a month, and not too much), it's really not happy for reasons that I can't determine. The tips of the new leaves are going brown and crispy very quickly and it just looks weedy and awful. This plant has huge sentimental value and so I really would like to effect a rescue. I'm starting to think that I should never have tried to take better care of it
