That is not a happy plant, is it? I am sorry.
There is very little actual leaf going and leaves are what feeds the plant, by photosynthesis. How is the light? If it is not right on A windowsill or under a light, probably insufficient. All I would say is, careful with water, good light, and lots of hope and patience!
Hope someone else has a concrete suggestion.
Plant it and they will come.
