Not sure if it's a slug or what. Trying to figure out if it's poisonous? I know that sounds silly, anything can get in my garden and touch my veggies without me knowing but since I saw this thought I would ask. Is it safe to consume anything in that garden bed where this slug type thing was found? I saw what looked like droppings on one of the tomato leaves and figure it's from whatever this thing is and got concerned about if it would still be consumable or not

It is a slug and you just need to sprinkle some salt on it and it'll dissolve. Not harmful for you to eat anything it's touched in your garden.

Or use a slug and snail bait, either metaldehyde (synthetic) or iron phosphate (organic).

Looks like a caterpillar to me. Its not slimy looking. The kind sometimes eats my Brugmansias. See if it has feet. Feet= caterpillar.
Plant it and they will come.

Slugs usually hide from the light, and Ive never seen slug poo that I'm aware of.

A better focused photo would help, but I agree with Sally, that frass says caterpillar, not slug. Unfortunately I can't identify what caterpillar it is, but not a typical hornworm.

I agree, it's clearly a caterpillar and not a slug (and not a hornworm); maybe this one, or something similar

@sallyg @Onewish1 @NMoasis @Weedwhacker Thanks! If it's still there, I'll try to get closers/clearer photos. I always thought caterpillars were green - didn't dawn on me that that's what it could be! Is it harmful to eat anything it may have touched?

Probably not unless it's some exotic poisonous variety we've never encountered...a good reason to ID it, I guess. A normal fruit rinse should suffice. I suspect I've ingested more bugs and frass from my garden than I want to think about! 😆

I would also seriously doubt that there is anything toxic left behind by whatever type of caterpillar that is; and you can spray your plants with Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) to eliminate them. It's sold under different names including Thuricide - something like this product https://www.gardensafe.com/pro...

We probably ingest more bug parts from food that we buy than from our own gardens Sticking tongue out
