Looks like a caterpillar to me. Its not slimy looking. The kind sometimes eats my Brugmansias and leaves poo pellets. . See if it has feet. Feet= caterpillar.
Slugs usually hide from the light, and Ive never seen slug poo that I'm aware of.
I say this emperor has no clothes. Smiling
Plant it and they will come.
