Hi,
I have just come to the realisation that we are able to propagate cucumbers by rooting their suckers. Which made me wonder a few things,
1. Would it be possible to constantly grow the same hybrid variety for years, if you saved the suckers before the mother plant went into decline and rooted them; and
2. Can you keep the rooted cuttings inside and alive over the worst of winter, (I live in a temperate Mediterranean climate).
thanks Smiling

Cucumbers are annuals...

Very unlikely to see any live past their normal lifespan.

Personally, I'd just plant collected seed... Don't worry about the hybrid aspect... I've never seen that much difference when collecting seed from hybrid versus heirloom.

While there may be small differences... to someone just trying to grow a salad? Not a big deal.

No I haven't rooted them, but the sucker can usually be identified by having a main sun leaf and another small cluster of leaves in the middle.
