I was just sitting in the sun, enjoying the antics of the hummingbirds, and when I looked down I spotted this:

Thumb of 2023-08-15/tigerpaws/680188 Upper surface

Thumb of 2023-08-15/tigerpaws/1a7cf9 Undersurface.

It sure doesn't take long for the leaf to wilt and curl from the edges inward. Think I will try to press it in a book and keep it.

When I was a kid, I'd find them everywhere, now not so much. I always saved and pressed them, I had well over 100 of them by the time I was in my teens. No idea what happened to them now though. I remember finding one at a cousin's house, they had 5 boys in the family, and when I held it up the youngest one snatched it and ate it! I was really ticked at him for that, it was a really big one! Hilarious!

Anne, did it bring you any luck or is that just a myth?

I found it probably 15 more or less years ago, so I don't remember if I was given a strike of luck. Probably not, I think it's just a myth.

I was hoping that you had had a bit of luck after you found it, maybe the luck is still coming your way. I always thought that that business about a 4-leaf clover was the myth cos I've always only seen 3 leafs but obviously the 4 does exist. Whistling

Never gave me much luck, and I should have been set for life! I remember putting them between 2 sheets of the thick clear vinyl we used to cover school books with once they'd dry out, so I handle them without fear of them falling apart. That heavy vinyl somehow really stuck to itself, not sure where to even find plastic like that anymore.

Congratulations, Tigerpaws - I've never in my life found a 4-leaf clover, so I think the good luck is perhaps just the fact that you found one! Smiling

I'd say my life is pretty unlucky, especially this year. Hilarious! Maybe if I did have a bit of luck, it's worn off by now. Smiling

Growing up there was a patch of clover at the local YMCA. Went to day camp there and later was a CIT (counselor in training)...found bunches of 4 leaf clovers as well as 5 leaf clovers in that patch. Was a great diversion when bored.

Speaking of diversionsโ€ฆ Rolling my eyes. reminds me of the time I found a fairy ring in the pasture. Really was a perfect circle โ€ฆ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ Definition of the growth of a fairy ring fungi begins in the center of the ring expanding outward in a relatively uniform, circular pattern.
It was formed from a pile of leaves left all winter to decompose . Then after the pile was removed a few days later the ring formed. Haven't seen one since. It was really quite a magical sight at 4'x4' perfectly round dotted with mushrooms.
English and Celtic folklore, fairy rings were caused by fairies or elves dancing in a circle. It was said that if humans joined in the dance they would be punished by the fairies, and made to dance in the ring until they passed out from exhaustion.

Bea, those fairies do have a mean streak don't they? I can imagine joining in on the excitement and wanting to dance along with them but NO. Glare Speaking of fairies, have you seen those fairy villages that some people are crafting? They are just the cutest. I've seen videos, fascinating.

I feel extremely lucky. I have family & friends who love me, I'm rarely actually hungry, rarely too hot or cold, live in a peaceful place with a little space for some plants, and free to pursue my happiness. It doesn't get much better than that unless one is too focused, IMVHO, on material objects. From what I've seen of most rich people, I don't want to be one. The riches of the soul and spirit are so much more valuable.

I try to remember the elephant sweep guy when I forget how lucky I am. I could still have it coming to me, but so far, I've never had a day as bad as this:
