Hi and welcome!
I am guessing this is a Cymbidium?
Is it possible that the appearance stems from some bad weather, lots of rain and wind? Did it topple?
To me the damage looks mechanical, and it should be fine the next time it blooms.

I am happy to report, we have another possibility here -

our BigBill mentions this:
"For what it is worth, Nugget's Cymbidium might be suffering from insect and/or critter damage.
When I enlarged the image, it was no where near clear, but I think I see shallow holes, tiny gouges, bite marks say from small snails, slugs, caterpillars or beetles.
The browning on the flowers could be as a result of munching. "

A little bit of iron phosphate slug/snail bait sprinkled around them might help. It's available at most garden centers here, and is non-toxic, turning into a plant nutrient after it does it's job.

@Australis Joshua is our resident expert on Cymbidiums, and he is in Australia, too. He might have better advice as to a remedy for you.

Welcome to the site, @Nugget139! I agree that this is insect damage to your Cymbidium (I've seen similar on my own plants).

Since you're in Australia, look for "Multicrop Multiguard Snail and Slug Killer". It's available from Bunnings and some other hardware stores and is what I used for snails and slugs in my garden. It was developed to be low impact on pets, birds and other wildlife.

If it is little beetles, caterpillars or cockroaches that are attacking your Cyms, though, then I recommend Richgro Beat-a-Bug spray. It's a natural chilli, garlic and pyrethrin oily spray that is quite effective on aphids and other small chewing critters. The chilli and garlic tends to dissuade the bugs from returning for a while.

Thumbs up Hope that takes care of it!

If you have a recurring problem with pests like I do, it's a good idea to spray the plants/put down the snail bait about once a month once you see the spikes emerging. I forgot to do that this year and have had a few spikes damaged, unfortunately!
