Thread OP
Sunrise, Florida
I live in South Florida. I love to garden and have a porch I would like to grow a vine on. Any suggestions on how to do this and what type of vine? The walls are stucco and would like the vine to grow on the walls and ceiling.

I am new to Florida too - moved south a few years ago from the northeast.

I see Bougainvillea growing everywhere. It is beautiful but prickly.

I have a porthos( I think) from a friend that grows like gangbusters. I grow mine as a hanging plant. I have to keep trimming it before it reaches other plants and takes root. It would climb but would also take over the area. I have seen similar plants climbing trees in untended areas.

I love roses. I would as for rose suggestions in the rose forum. I have a couple potted roses, no climbers (yet). I am still learning to keep plants alive in Florida.

@TerrisPorch and @GardenQuilts Welcome! to Florida. The only vine I am growing on the trellis is Blue Ternate. Home Depot and Lowe's sell trellis that are meant for walls.

I have tried to start that from seed unsuccessfully. I love blue flowers. I'll try again.

I was thinking of passiflora aka passion vine.

I am growing Japanese morning glories inside in boxes climbing against the window. They don't set many seeds unlike regular morning glories which could be a nightmare in Florida.

I can't recall if they were difficult or not. I just soaked them for 48 hours with warm water and hydrogen peroxide and planted them directly into the pot.

That reminds me I need to sow my morning glories.

Yesterday I found an old seedpacket of asparagus beans but I have no recollection of buying them. So they must be really old. I sowed them in the same pot as my blue ternatea.
