Thread OP

I have several patches of what everybody here thought was crabgrass. After seeing the picture of both and being able to compare, I now know I have a dallis grass problem.
[admin added link] Dallisgrass (Paspalum dilatatum)
I use a bag to catch everything during the mowing season. Does that actually help keep the weeds from willfully trying to destroy my lawn?

Also, I have pictures of just a few of the wide variety of the weeds I have now taking over my lawn. I took the pictures on my Android phone, but I can't seem to find a way to send them to you. There are four that I especially want to know the names of and how to get rid of them. The yard was neglected by the previous owners, but I do have some grass, Bermuda, I think.

Great website. I needed you more last year than this year, but thank goodness I found you.

I moved your question to the Ask A Question forum rather than attached to one members plant database photo.

The catch bag will prevent the seeds you mow down from landing back on your lawn but not what the birds and wind bring you.

Thread OP

Thanks for all the information.
I have another question, I have a plant (weed?) growing OUT OF CONTROL in both my front and back yards. It seems to be everywhere.
In the spring, I can tell where it is by these tiny white flowers. They are pretty but beware of what lies beneath. It is kind of like a vine, growing lower than my grass and hard to see without the flower, but there are literally thousands of what I would say are seed pods. If you try to pull it up, these seeds scatter everywhere, and you just cannot pick every one of them up.
This year, my yard was taken over by so many things that are not grass, I feel useless trying to make it look decent. I live in Alabama, if that helps.
I took pictures on my phone and couldn't figure out how to send them to you so they could be identified. I will try again if they are still loaded with seeds...or berries, who knows.
I said before, the previous owners neglected the yard, except for a nice flower bed that I plan on relaxing in... soon.
One of my neighbors has a friend who he said used to work at Arlington National Cemetery and suggested laying down Pro diamine 0.42% with
0-0-7 fertilizer three times this year, now (October), November and January. It takes two 50lb bags for both front and back yards.
Another neighbor uses Drive XLR8 (quinclorac 18.92% in liquid concentrate.
I'm at a loss.

Have you read any information on these herbicides?

Pro diamine 0.42% with 0-0-7 fertilizer:

https://content.ces.ncsu.edu/b....

I wouldn't invest in this until you know specifically what weeds you have. From your description, I wonder if you have bindweed loose in your lawn. This will not kill bindweed.

Here's some info on Drive XLR8 (quinclorac 18.92%)

https://www.pedchem.com/produc...

Identify the weeds you are attempting to kill and 'weeds' you want to keep before using broad species herbicides.

Neither of these products can be sold in California so I would also read everything I could find about environmental damages and safest application.

Good luck!
