I planted alternating boxwoods and Little Quick Fire Panicle Hydrangeas along the back foundation of my house. My understanding is that Hollytone would be the appropriate fertilizer for the hydrangeas (acid-loving) and PlantTone would be the appropriate one for the boxwoods (appreciates alkaline soi). The two driplines, where the fertilizer goes, are very close together now. Will the two different types cancel each other out and do nothing for either one? It's alot of physical effort for me at this age, getting down into the driplines between these bushes and if it's not going to do much (if any) good, I won't waste any more time and effort.
From your response, it makes me think that Hollytone and PlantTone are NOT specifically meant to enhance the soil for acid-loving bushes or alkaline-needy bushes! Are they the SAME STUFF?? Have we been bamboozled to think one will enhance acidity or alkalinity in soil???

Both of them grow just fine here in our pH 8-9, so pick one and give it to both. You could mix them together and apply that to all of them. Plants can't read fertilizer labels.

Just to show how adaptable these plants are, here in zone 6a our landscape has several cultivars of panicle hydrangeas and 2 of boxwood (Blue Mountain and a globose one). John's soil pH is 8-9 in California and ours tests at 5.8!

The soil is naturally fertile, so I haven't fertilized them in years but I wouldn't use different ones given they are doing fine in the same soil.

John's advice sounds fine to me. @CPPgardener
