Just to show how adaptable these plants are, here in zone 6a our landscape has several cultivars of panicle hydrangeas and 2 of boxwood (Blue Mountain and a globose one). John's soil pH is 8-9 in California and ours tests at 5.8!

The soil is naturally fertile, so I haven't fertilized them in years but I wouldn't use different ones given they are doing fine in the same soil.

John's advice sounds fine to me. @CPPgardener
