Hi,
as you know I'm new here Smiling I live in northern Italy; my house has a small garden. I always liked gardening and soon as we moved in our new home, we started to plant several bushes, plants, flowers and few roses... and all of a sudden I fell in love with the colorful and parfumed world of the queen of flowers. So year by year I'm adding, in the garden or in pots, new roses to add more colors to my home. We love also to have cut roses to brighten our home during the year.
I must say that during last few years the weather conditions are really getting tough (spring seems to last few weeks and summer is getting longer and too hotter) but I do my best to let them grow and bloom .
Here are some of them:

Hi Annie,
generally speaking, I have a special eye for hybrid tea roses just because I love to have in my home pots of cut roses in every period of the year... they are more suitable for this purpose than floribunda roses... altough they're wonderful too.
So, in this moment, the ones that I prefer in my garden are the Orient Express and the Today.
But all of them have strong points and weaknesses... ie Mme Carriere is beautiful and very parfumed (and the tree continues to produce dozens of flowers each day) but the flower is short-lasting... other ones are more delicate in case of rain, etc etc.
Anyway I'm happy to have all of them, in my home every week I have fulfilled colorful pots Smiling

Welcome to the forum, rickycr! I'm in Italy, too-in northern Tuscany. Your roses are beautiful, and I fully share your concerns about our climate. Things are pretty bleak now,but that does not stop me from hoping and praying for some fundamental changes for the better...best wishes, Eileen

I agree....each rose has strengths and weaknesses. I have fewer roses than you, but, love the ones I have. In the spring I am ordering Konigin Von Danemark and Madam Hardy. I love hybrid teas and old roses, too, but, alas, I don't have much lawn space, so, have had to choose carefully which roses to get. Your entire garden looks gorgeous.

Thank you! Smiling but it's also very small Rolling my eyes. I like also very much English Roses (and even the ancient perpetual shrubs) but they are too big... One of those gets the space for 2 or 3 (small) modern roses.

The roses you ordered are really gorgeous... very important ancient roses.
I had a look few months ago to one of those kind... Baron Girod De L'ain... I was tempted but I couldn't figure out where to place it. So I desisted (for the moment Green Grin! )

Hi! Thank you!
The ones you suggested are really nice, especially the Molineux, I really love yellow roses.
So I'm taking note everything for the next spring... it will be hard to choose, as usual Rolling my eyes.

You´re right, especially the once-flowering antique roses often grow very large (Gallica, Moss ect.).

In your mild climate, the repeat-flowering antique China-roses must work well.
They usually don´t get that big either (Hermosa, Little White Pet, Arethusa, Rival de Paestum ect.).

Welcome! to the forum!
Please add your excellent photos to the Plant Database.
It is a bit of a learning curve at first, but generally user friendly.

Here I can grow only the most disease resistant roses, so I've nearly given up.

I've gone back and forth on that rose...Baron G. D. L. It's beautiful and unique, but, I've read that the bush looks lanky and doesn't fill out well. So far I've passed on it.

Really? Mmm, good to know. I read in different places that's a bit delicate about powdery mildew so it should be properly treated.
It looks like a difficult rose, then Thinking

1978? It was few years ago... time now to come back for a new visit Smiling
I've been in the US just twice (1995 and 2011, Boston and NY). I would like to have more time and possibility to get there now with my family for a trip around all the US.

About roses, I think they're wonderful as they are delicate. Impossible to have them 100% healthy and for all the year.
Some of them suffer oidium, other rust, etc... I do my best with fertilizers, treatments but something always occurs. I hate mostly parasites... specially a lepidopteran with the orange belly that generates defoliating green worms.
To face all this unfortunately it takes a lot of time but in the (to me) it is worth Smiling

It was long ago. I was in France in 1990-1991 for 5 months, but that was my last time in Europe. All roses were easy to grow when I lived in Southern California. My climate here has big extremes, and breeds mold and insects very well. Hilarious! I hope your plan for a US tour can become a reality. Thumbs up
