Wish we could send rain west indeed...
My old man tells people all the time, too little rain will hurt everything, too much rain will just kill it...

It's painful watching ur babies roast in the sun, but with no sun and near a foot of rain in a week, everything, including my EE are hurtin!

As soon As the sun comes back, look out, massive leaf burn is in store... Now I'm almost dreading the sun too

Holy cow, Drew! That's a monumental leaf, and how d'you get your EEars to grow money like that??

Good to see you, thought you'd dropped off the edge, so to speak.

Sway, there's no raccoons in our yard, but appreciate the suggestion! It's fenced in, and a great Dane lives inside the fence. AFAIK, the compost is being further decomposed by the microbes and soil-dwellers like pill bugs.

Just took this pic. Haven't needed to water anything for a couple weeks, quite the opposite with over 10" of rain recently.

It looks great, Tiffany. I see yours grows money, too. Whistling

I keep finding new ear plants. People give them to me, I pot them up and stash them somewhere they'll get watered, then Voila! Come to think of it, I've got a plant of Lime Zinger lurking around here as well . . . Blinking

Ah ha! So that's what I've seen waving around on the NE horizon!

Nothing succeeds like neglect in my garden, Drew. Can't find Lime Zinger, though. I did discover a couple of other volunteers, a baby 'Blue Hawaii' where I never planted it, and a lot of little Caladiums. I had a bunch of little bulbs sitting on my potting table out there, and I thought the squirrels had eaten them. Guess not! Little Jewel Alo. I got from Mj as a tiny start, has a 'big' new shiny leaf!

Looks like A. cuprea, Elaine. Not too much light (if you did not know), or the Copperish/Bronze won't be as intense IF, it is Cuprea.

Thanks for the ID, guys. That plant has been growing for almost 2 years, as we have had two very mild winters, and on the cold nights it was snug under the big tent with the Earth boxes of veggies. I guess it wouldn't hurt if I gave it a bit of fertilizer, huh? As I said nothing succeeds like neglect around here. Never fear, I have lots of nice shade.

Not sure if this one is an Alo. or a Caladium, the jury's still out. Still I like to show off Hilo Beauty and it has grown a lot since I last posted it. Loves the rain! Today was our first day with no rain in 10 days. Oh, and Polly should get some winter protection this year, too.

The dark green is alocasia. I had one and didn't know much about it. It died in the winter. Duh! (insert forehead slap) I want another one badly!

More of an elaboration!
It's cuprea, you nailed it, it's not a common alocasia, I've never owned one... Shrug!
I'm not crazy for them, if grow it if I had the chance!
There's a truly stunning bronze one, it has larger raise veins, it looks the most like plastic of any plant I've even seen! Touched smelled or tasted for that matter!
No I didn't lick it the owner was right there! I would have if I had the chance!

Homer, what's the story behind that beast of an alocasia you posted there?
I'm not familiar with that cross, I might guess it came from lariann?
Reminds me of portora, but stretched out, must be near 10' no?

Greenthumb- get some pics of your noids! I bet we can I'd em for you!
Also the questionable plant dyz mentioned is the other pic they posted, the white splashed one, they have never bloomed! So noid! But if that's an alocasia, I've never an alocasia...

It really has made progress hasn't it, this weathers just crazy, we had our first sun in 10 days too, what a mess!

Looking great, Susan! The first one is a gorgeous color.

Um, if I might offer my 2 cents, it might not be a good idea to have an EEar in the same pot with your nice stripey Canna (second pic). The Canna (in my experience at least) will fill that pot over the summer, and definitely would choke out the EEar. They are lusty growers, heavy feeders and very thirsty, just like the ears, but more so.

I have been putting those cannas in those pots for years and there is plenty of space to add other plants although you are correct EE's aren't the best choice. Oh how I wish they would multiply like yours. My season isn't long enough for that to happen. You make me drool with florida envy. It is our plan to retire in Florida in two years. We have not chosen a location but I'm thinking central Florida and just far enough south to have palm trees. Maybe Lakeland, Lake Wales area.

Swayback, I thought I answered this, I guess it was somewhere else I wrote that it was A. x red portora. She developed the Red, Green and Blue varieties. This is the Red one that you are speaking of. A. odora and portei cross. I have noticed that once they start getting over 5-6 feet the leaves morph into a little longer narrower leaves on the Red... Don't have enough experience with the blue yet as they are only 2 yrs. old (however they do appear wider at the posterior lobes). The Green Portora I got in September 12 as a seedling, and is coming on nicely... It appears (as LariAnn told me) it will get a lot bigger than the Red. I have a 15' tall garage, so, I hope it will fit, once i get it in a 65 gallon pot of course.

EE's coming along good for 5-b Susan.

Thanks again for the Acorn things Elaine

I have a couple to spare, Drew. Got all the microbadges I want for now. You could post individual pics of your various colors of Portora to the Plant Database. That would get you enough acorns to buy your first microbadge.

I didn't think you actually could send rain, but Saturday evening, the weather guy said we were going to get rain from a system coming in from Kentucky! Wow! I woke up to a gentle shower hitting the windows.

Thanks!
