After some input into strange happenings with lilium Regale.From experience, I know they are prone to fasciation ,coming up blunt( no flowers) & dropping buds but this one just up & ffffft in front of me.Could it be that I removed the weeds, too late & upset the roots❓️

I suspect bulb rot, or some sudden environmental change not to the liking. If this happen after pulling the weeds, maybe the bulb had already rotted and the plant was living off stem roots... and then you messed that up.
