Hi all
Some lilies I scaled about 4 weeks ago.

Second one is a $60 bulb. I now have 11 immature ones plus the mother bulb in the garden. So now each bulb is less than 5$

Garden math
Ha ha!!!!!

Lots of fun, isn't it! I remember my first successes at scaling. And it is always a good idea to take a few scales from those really expensive bulbs. They often can not be replaced if they are not in commercial propagation.

Hi Connie.
I learned an expensive lesson over a decade ago. With a beautiful dark asiatic called sungod.
Squirrels in my area can identify the most expensive lily bulb or most rare one, and eat it. I always take a couple of scale off any of my new lilies before I plant them.

Scaling: Insurance that pays itself forward. They are looking good, Eric.

All you have to do is think how wonderful a lily is, admire the bulb while you plant it and the network of underground dwellers get on their iPhone-equivalent rodent device and contact everyone they know. The squirrels, they overhear it all. One way or another, they will devour the most rare, most expensive bulbs....Or the seedling you think is your best.

Kind of like the "party lines" from the old days of land lines. Really old, but I remember them...
