Started today and got about 10 sq ft done in 45 min. The Crabgrass is mixed in with Bermuda and Fescue and it doesn't want to pull out easily, even with a weeding hand tool.

I have a Sun Joe electric cultivator. I was wondering if I could cultivate the area, remove the excess, put a Crabgrass pre emergent down and then just plant Fescue in the Spring?

Thanks

3 applications of Tenacity... Crabgrass is yellowish, but still viable

Goes to the property line and then to the right around the corner.

Disbelieve that I'd be planting a cool season grass like fescue where the summers get hot.

Considering the water issues out in southern California.... Turf seems like a very poor choice...

Aren't they trying to convince homeowners to plant a more sustainable ground cover?

At my house in the sandhills, I have Bahia grass growing down the centre of my driveway... never requires a drop of supplemental water in the sandhills... always stays green...

And... apparently grows in California....

Pretty good choice for someone stuck on turf...

Personally, I don't have room for turf... but seems like too much work to dig it back out of my driveway.

Bahiagrass' biggest advantage is it will survive on sandy, acid, infertile soils.

Usually... crabgrass moves in where the previous ground cover doesn't have the necessary conditions to thrive...

I think looking at why the current ground cover isn't happy would be a far better consideration than your current focus on the crabgrass...

I always encourage people to consider alternatives when they are having issues with what they are trying to grow...

Some properties are bad choices for the commonly planted turf grasses... and struggling to get that desired stand of lawn is often a case of throwing good money after bad, with never a win to be attained.

This crabgrass moved in from my neighbor's lawn. It's now wanting to creep into my landscaping near my home so I need to remove it. I think I'll mow the patch down and continue with the Tenacity. It's specially designed to kill it.

I spent about 6 years removing the crabgrass from my lawn, Sprayed the large areas, and then pulled up the smaller areas by hand. And then improved the growing conditions for the good grass. It was the smaller areas that took so much time, but it did work.

Yes, thanks... It was more fully established than I realized. It's dormant now anyway so I figure this is the best time to work on it. Today will be about 70 degrees so I'll mow it down and hit it again with the herbicide. Glad your hard work paid off!

Yes, it finally did, and the lawn looked pretty lush. I just had to keep at it - it actually almost became a compulsion according to my hubby nodding Glad to hear you have warm weather - it was 5 degrees yesterday and only a bit warmer today - Ohio is in a deep freeze.

Oh wow... 5 degrees! Yeah CA has some advantages weather-wise. We're still waiting for the El Nino to give us some rain. January has been pretty mild.

I set my lawnmower to its lowest setting this morning and mowed the crabgrass down. Then I hit it with the herbicide again. The blue-ish color is where the crabgrass is (part of the herbicide mix to identify where you spray). I think I'm on a good path now.

Stay warm!
