Thread OP

Hello,

New for the forum. I have Japanese boxwood that I planted during the summer. A few weeks ago, I noticed discoloration. The top leaves are light green and the bottom has some brown. I live in Southern California, so while it has been a little cooler than usual about 45-60 F, it is not freezing. I have boxwood around the corner, never been trimmed, that does not have this discoloration. Is this normal? Is this boxwood blight, root rot, under watering? Thank you!

Welcome! to the site!

I'm not all that familiar with Boxwood and I'm not sure what the cause may be. Have you by chance had any major temper fluctuations in your area that could have caused the discoloration?

Hopefully someone more familiar with Buxus species will be able to help.

OP, how are your boxwoods doing? I love boxwood and wanted to plant it in my first home. I had a nursery do it for me, but the owner suggested Wintergreen boxwood would be best. He had little regard for Japanese boxwood. I must say, my Wintergreen boxwood grew beautifully. It never had any sort of discolouration or anything. Maybe your problem is peculiar to Japanese boxwood?
