Test to see whether the twigs are elastic (alive) or brittle (dead). Even if the top growth is dead the roots may still be alive. Hard to say when we don't know what it is/was.

Hi & welcome!

Was it an asparagus fern? Whatever it is, it looks very dead. But if it just got too dry and you added water before the roots had completely shriveled up, there could be hope. As drought-tolerant as asparagus fern is, that seems likely.

The good news is, if that is what your plant was, they are a pretty common sight to find as a houseplant, or sold as a yard weed in warmer climates.

The foliage is fairly soft and elastic, with some droppage on a slight pinch. Re: asparagus fern, the photos I've found of pink/purple ones don't quite match the color I remember it being before I gifted it so I'm unsure it's that

Hmm... Can you cut a piece off and take a pic of it by itself? You won't be losing anything because the brown foliage can not turn green again.

Maybe some kind of Selaginella? Here are a few, and there are many other types/species of Selaginella.
Spikemoss (Selaginella erythropus 'Sanguinea')
Gemmiferous Spikemoss (Selaginella moellendorffii)
Red Selaginella (Selaginella erythropus)
Sand Spikemoss (Selaginella arenicola)

It's a Fern Asparagus, Asparagus setaceus. It's also dead. When they get that brown they're gone unless they're in the ground or a big pot.
