Thread OP

HI,
I am in search to see if they still have the San Fernando Rose. It was a hybrid tea rose that came out in 1948, the hybridizer was Theodore J. Morris. It was a lovely darker red with a touch of violet, and the smell was a very strong, beautiful rose fragrance. It was like nothing I had ever smelled on a rose, it was amazing. We had one in our backyard in Northridge, CA when I was a kid, it had belonged to my Paternal grandmother, who planted it around that time. My father dug up his late mother's rose bushes that were in West L.A. and tranplanted them in our Northridge backyard in 1969. The rose was a bit delicate, but it lived for nearly 40 years before it finally died. If anyone knows if it still exists and where I can find one, or get cuttings, I would love to have one. I attached a picture from an old catalog page from the late 1940's, the San Fernando Rose is the red one on the bottom left. Thanks. -DTD

According to helpmefind.com, it was available from Roses Unlimited in South Carolina at some point, but it isn't listed among the nursery's current offerings.

Unfortunately, it isn't even listed at the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden any longer. Per their interactive inventory, the only Morris roses remaining there are Mission Bells and San Luis Rey. http://fm70.triple8.net/fmi/we...
