Hello everyone,
I am new to forum and Adeniums so please be patient. I have been researching online for any information on how to get that really twisted root system on Adeniums. Plenty of data for radial root training, but no real details on twisted or how to twist roots. Any help is greatly appreciated. This looks like a wonderful forum...thanks!

First ...Welcome to the National Gardening Association Adenium forums !

wait until spring when growth returns

To get the twisted roots - prepare to repot your adenium(s) with a sandy, chunky potting medium and unglazed pot ....

pull adenium(s) from pot ..... knock off all old potting media ....and wash all remaining dirt off roots -
layer in a 1 inch rock layer at bottom of pot ....this will help drainage and force roots to grow outwards, instead of downwards like carrot ....

layer in a thin layer of prepared potting media ...

next - set adenium root ball so the longest roots touch first layer of potting mix ....
layer in another thin layer of potting mix ....then lift & turn adenium root ball so it twists - 1/4 turn ...
layer in yet another thin layer of potting mix ....twisting the adenium root ball 1/4 turn right, more soil ....then 1/4 left...add more soil .....repeat until caudex is 1 to 1-1/2" higher than where it was originally
Tip: sprinkle in a little Osmocote 14-14-14 with each added layer of potting media

Thank you very much deepsouth! I will be doing a lot of experimenting with these plants for root and branch development. Some from seedlings, some from one year old with the aim to eventually bonsai them. I found some very colorful hand pollinated varieties of fresh seeds from a reputable company in the UK. Hoping I can overwinter here in R,I. Thanks again!

@BarryLowell Welcome! to the adenium forum. Great advice from @deepsouth. He is our adenium king!

Would love to see the progress of your root training and would love to see photos of your collection.
