Is growing Lemony Lace Elderberry worth a try in Zone 8b, North Central Texas? It is zoned 4 - 7.

Welcome!

As far as cold hardiness?

Sure!
If your city is in hardiness zone 8b, as you say...
Your minimum cold winter temperatures are between 15 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Lemony Lace Elderberry can withstand cold temperatures of -40°F to -30°F if it's hardy to zone 3. Well below your most severe winter.

NOTE: The hardiness range of 3 - 7 is sometimes confusing-
If it's hardy in zone 3- it's hardy in all zones higher- including 8b.
The hardiness zone only deals with maximum cold- it doesn't attempt to judge the plants adaption to heat. Perhaps others have grown it near you?

Kenisaac, thank you. I am actually more concerned about our summer heat. It would be on the west side of our house but would get dappled shade from a post oak. I had a dwarf Japanese maple (Acer palmatum 'Kiyohime') in that spot that survived 9 years but succumbed to the stresses of a couple of exceptionally cold winters followed by a couple of hotter than usual summers. I will try to find out through our local garden club and Native Plant Society of Texas if anyone has tried to grow it. I appreciate your response. Any additional thoughts? Thanks, again.
