I looked up 'Rainbow Radiance'; beautiful color and form on that daylily. (I have few diploids in the garden now, and I prefer my daylilies to be much taller... but still, that is beautiful. If I can find a raised bed somewhere, I might acquire it.)
Update on the Moon Garden... pictures taken within the past two weeks (I am adding/moving plants around):
Moon Garden north path, at dusk
This was shot at dusk, without a tripod, and the photo was unedited (except for sharpening). The daisy is Shasta daisy 'Angel Daisy' (I recently added three of these to the north pathway). Just behind that is the white-flowered society garlic
Tulbaghia violacea 'Alba'. The
Pelargoniums (two seen) are 'Rocky Mountain White'.
Penstemon 'Holly's White is in the background. (The daylilies are, clockwise from 9 o'clock, 'Gadsden Icicle', 'Luna', and 'Beautiful Edgings'. 'Luna', although appropriately named for this garden, is getting expunged this fall; the scapes are somewhat weak and the blooms too close to the foliage for my liking.)
The stepping stones were chosen especially for the Moon Garden, both for their overall light color (for moonlight/dawn/dusk), but also for the subtle variation of color during the day. (Of all the rocks and stones that went into this garden, this is the only one whose name I clearly remember: 'Three Rivers'.)
Rosa 'Marie Bugnet'
I talked about this rose earlier in this thread, I think...and was considering deleting it due to non-performance. I'm having second thoughts now... this is only its second year, and it seems to finally be settling in... and propagating? I found what I thought was perhaps a chance seedling a foot or so away, and then about 10 days ago, discovered another plant coming up a foot away from that! I'm beginning to think that maybe these are suckers. (I'm not going to dig to investigate until winter, when the
Gaura will be cut back and out of the way.) Pictured in the photo are the
Gaura, the rose,
Penstemon 'Holly's White', and the variegated
Euphorbia 'Tasmanian Tiger'. (I had a variegated
Euonymous in that spot, but something kept eating it.
Nothing bothers the
Euphorbias, lol!)
Dahlia 'Eveline', Moon Garden south path, at dusk
This is not a great photo; it was also taken without a tripod, at dusk. (The image was so dark that I had to fiddle with the exposure in PhotoShop.), Shown here mostly as another illustration of how the white blooms just "pop". Also seen are
Salvia 'Navajo White' and
Penstemon 'Holly's White (at the upper left).
Dahlia 'Eveline' daytime
While I like this dahlia, it
is somewhat tall at 40", and the flower not all that large (somewhere around 3-3.5"?). It was originally closer to the house, but it was too shaded there, and flopped into the pathway from a small doorway landing. I moved it into more sun, but now it is just a bit too tall for the surrounding plants, so that it sticks out not attractively. Either this fall or (more likely) next spring, I will move it back closer to the house - but still in full sun - where the surrounding plants (at least by mid-summer) are taller and will go better with it.
