I have CHORAL FANTASTY myself. Still waiting for it to shape up to look like pictures I see of it but not in my garden. I have South Seas and love it. Never going to get rid of it.

Angie, I doubt any daylily could look great next to that beautiful hydrangia! Whistling

I have never been a fan of eyes. I think out of the approx. 100 I kept in my garden from the thousands I have grown in the last 20 years... there are only two eyes. Mary Ethel Anderson and Cherry Burst.

That said, I remember seeing Beyond the Mask in another garden and it didn't look much better than yours.

And, you are practically in the south, so that can't be it.

One sad fact I'm finding out is that sometimes when you replace an older daylily with what is suppose to be the newest and best, it isn't always an improvement. I do like to give them 3 years to prove what they can do.

Juli, that is Hydrangea Blaumeise and it is really shining this year! Deep, rich blue on the petals, but BTM didn't look good last year either and I've had it for several years now. It's going to be moved to a less visible spot, but I will keep it.

I used to have Pandora's Box and don't know what's happened to it. I know I moved it and I have one of the AAA markers for it, so I can't explain it. Mysteries abound in my garden!

So true Susan. The newer ones don't seem as hardy in my climate and do not multiply as well. I mentioned in an earlier post that Spiney Sea Urchin has sulked for 3 years and hadn't bloomed. This year it finally bloomed. Although only 1 scape, I think I will give it another year. 3 years sometimes is a charm I find.

I try to give them time but sometimes nothing helps. I have quite afew that left the garden here because I just didn't like them. Funny but what I think is ugly someone else thinks is pretty. So we each have our tastes. Of course sometimes they leave for non preformance buts thats another issure.

I'm rethinking a lot of mine because I'm thinking I just have too many anyway. If I don't really love them I'll be letting them go. I found it hard to properly care for them all this year because there were just so many of them. The only way I'll allow myself another daylily now is by replacing one with one I'm not crazy about.
I probably should get rid of 2 for every new daylily I think I need for awhile so I can get these down to a reasonable amount of plants. I went completely nuts these last few years. Hilarious!

I have too. I need to downsize, I just can't care for them all.
I am weeding them out based on rebloom, blooming too low in the foliage, color too weak, flower doesn't open well, doesn't hold up to sun/rain, ect.

I have some that just look too much the same and I am getting rid of some of those also.

I need to join the downsizing club too. But I just am not doing well at that. I get rid of some but then I just go and buy more. The downsizing idea is just not taking hold at my garden.

Well, I'm just hoping that I'll be so immersed in my new home that I won't be tempted to order daylilies all winter this time. Winter and sales are the toughest for me. I need to keep my self so busy that I'm not looking. Just concentrate on what I've already got! Hilarious!

I have a lot that look similar too Frilly. Many bloom at the same time together too. That should help to make it easier to choose the ones to go I'd think?

Most of mine bloomed for the first time this year. (I added over 400 daylilies last year! Whistling ) . This year I was a bit better, but still added more! *Blush*

Next year I will (try) to concentrate on maintaining the beds, and adding better plant labels. Right now I have everything marked with plastic forks and knives. LOL. I bought about 300 eon markers and need to get them in. I know that I need a bunch more, but even those will be a stretch to add.

I was going to throw away Matt this year. It must have heard me because it actually look decent this year. I tried a little experiment with it since I was going to toss it anyway. I cut some of the foliage back just enough so the scape was taller than the leaves. The plant looked a little funny, but the flower appreciated being taller than the leaves. At least it open and wasn't all twisted and deformed. I still think it's ugly, but my aunt Esther thinks it's beautiful and wanted one. Go figure. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

This is what "mud puppy" Matt did this year after it's foliage got a trimming. It was very happy not to be buried in the leaves for once and had lots of buds, but it still could win an ugly contest.

I did send Matt away. I just didn't like the flowers blooming so low in the foilage.

Years ago,I saw a picture of Ida's Magic and fell so madly in love with that picture that I ordered a dbl fan,$40.00 after a 25% discount, waited excitedly for the next year after planting to see it in bloom and it was the ugliest thing I ever saw!

Arghh! Crying I can't imagine tossing any! But I am new to DL's and will only have the ones I am getting this fall from some generous gardeners, LOL! So the thought of just pitching any to the compost pile is truly frightening to me! Maybe in a few years I will be thinking that way, but for now, I want all of them,,,, Drooling Hilarious!
