Marilyn,
I bought two at the alpine garden plant sale. I was very inspired by the wonderful display at Denver Botanic Garden in the crevice garden section. Both of my Buki kicked the bucket! Too hot and dry this summer.

Sounds like a great credential to have in Lynn's Oregon Backyard!...and Pueblo is certainly a lot closer than France. Good Luck!

I agree The one of mine that doesn't look too good has almost died several times. I keep watering and puttering with it, and it keeps hanging on so we'll see!! Who knows maybe it'll all be ok I tip my hat to you.

Well, I am glad I started this... but well, I am now looking for some seeds to start anew :)
YES, I think the heat plus the fact I just transplanted it... long tap root I may have touched a bit...
Over the winter it was OK.

Too bad I didn't take pics of the flowers but they didn't appeal to me much. Long branching stems, rather small flowers...

The NARGS swap last year had seeds for this plant.
I wintersowed it, and obtained two plants.
One died over the summer, and the other one is now out under several inches of snow.
I am hoping that it is warm and cosy under the snow blanket.

The plant did not make it through the winter of 2013 to 2014 here in zone 3.
Perhaps it should have been mulched better.

Oh Caroline, how wonderful to hear that you started some from seed. I can't wait to see how yours comes through winter for you.
How did you winter sow them? In situ, or tray/containers?

Hey, chicken grit can be a lot of fun. First, there's the fact that without chicken grit, we wouldn't have healthy chickens and all the fun that chickens bring, let alone the tasty, healthy meals. What would cooks do without healthy chickens? Then there's the sempervivum connection with all this forum and its members do. Why even the forum itself is named after "chickens". Where would this forum be without chicken grit? Then there is the philosophical questions of which came first, the chicken grit, the hen or the egg. Deep philisophical questions depend on the existence of chicken grit. I could go on, but I think you'll agree that being more fun than chicken grit (and hence, Lynn) is a lot of fun.

The wintersow was in juice containers of potting soil.
End of March.
I did not know anything about this plant except it might be good in a rock garden.
I should really research the seeds better.

Bev, and Twit, thanks for the encouragement. I do feel better about being as "fun" as chicken grit. Hilarious!

Lynn when I decide to go to Pueblo to Sunscapes it would be in the spring. Maybe before the conference time (May)
so that perhaps, perhaps, perhaps I could let you know and bring a new buki with me. No promises. Whistling

Will keep you posted. Rolling my eyes.

Oh twit, my day is complete now. I have missed you and your wonderful sense of humor.

See, even twit thinks chicken grit is fun. I'm not so odd after all. Green Grin! Well, maybe a little odd. Whistling

Caroline, your information is very helpful. It let me know that I can late winter/early spring sow the Buki seeds when I do the sempervivum seeds. Thank you so much.

Bev, maybe we should have the occasion catered. Call the local news paper and TV stations. Hurray!
