Daylilies are so charming! Love those pinks and that pot is so nice. It's the depth of the color that is so attractive.

Thank you!! Green Grin!

I have a small lace leaf red maple I am transplanting and I was wanting to do a color echoe with some pink lilies or such. Can anyone think of anything that might look good. How about something with burgundy eyes. New location will be part sun. Also thinking about short geraniums around base, pink flowered.

Pretty daylilies Susan! The pot is so colorful and pretty!

Susan - how's this:

Very nice, Susie! Coleus are ideal for color echoes, color harmony and pots. I also enjoy caladiums but not with coleus (for me). The pinks in caladiums tend to lean more to the yellowish pinks or lavender pink, just not true pink in my eyes.

Caladiums and many other plants almost dictate other colors to be used in the same pot:

I have the geranium/pelargonium in your second photo, Susie, and love it. That touch of purple near the edge is such fun for playing with colors for matching plants.

I try to be content with the things we can grow here and I generally am except for the Japanese Maples. I am so jealous of folks that can grow them because I think they are so beautiful!

The colors of the maple and the columbine are so pretty together, and your caladium with the red impatiens are very striking!

I like that geranium too because of the colors in the leaves that get so bright and dark at the same time.

Aren't there cultivars of JM's that do well in your zone? Some people grow them in pots, which they take to the garage for the winter. I never had any JM's until the computer came along.

Thanks. I liked that combo, then came the problem of mildew and impatiens...

Oh, yes. Those leaves sold me on the plant and I did take cuttings as well as lifted the plants to overwinter!

Thank you Susie, I love all yours also! Such nice colors. I have been wanting one of those variegated geraniums and keep forgetting the name of it. Confused

These are beautiful pirl! I really must get a pelargonium but I don't see them for sale anywhere. I will just add it to my want list which seems to keep getting longer by the hour. I had bought a big caladium the year before last and put it with the hostas and it was getting too much sun plus I kept forgetting to water it. The hostas are use to me and they are all sun tolerant and slug resistant.
Thumb of 2013-11-23/virginiarose/db9465

See how small the hostas are, it was spring the year after I planted it. Pauls glory is big because I purchased it from a local nursery.

So nice and neat, Susan.

The hostas will grow and expand so don't worry. The caladiums I grow in sun prefer being in the soil, not potted. Those in shade do fine in pots.

Susan, The geranium is Mrs. Pollock and I've kept mine over for lots of years too with cuttings and sometimes I'll bring a plant in if I have room.

Nope Arlene, no Japanese Maples are for zone 3 and I don't have room in my garage so I'll just keep looking longingly at posts of other people's. Sad

One of our local nurseries has many pelargoniums with those great edges and some with dark coloring. It's difficult to buy just a few.

I do not see any sellers in Va. Sad

Thanks for the compliment about the hostas. They are already big because that pic was two years ago. You would be surprised how big they are now, some almost three feet wide.

Thanks Susie! I will put that on my list and see what happens. I found two sellers but they are unavailable so I bookmarked them for spring. Green Grin!

Those pelargoniums are really nice. I have a few with that leave coloring, Mrs. Cox, Mrs. Pollack and tri color. I take many cuttings during the winter of some of my collection.

So nice, Julia! My favorite is the first photo - luscious colors!

How long do you allow the cuttings to heal over before you pot them, Julia? Do you use sand and potting mix to grow them?
