They're lovely, I'm going to have to look for an Angel's Goldface, since I have no doubles, and do love the yellow ones. My Charles Grimaldi is just about at the end of its useful career.

I keep mine in pots. When they get too huge to be in the pot I can handle, I roust it out and start a new one from a cutting. Charles Grimaldi is sort of a wimpy one, and I'd like to try another yellow one instead.

Forgot to add, love those Passi's too. I have that one, quadrangularis, right? Have you ever had one set a fruit? I'm thinking we don't have the right pollenator here. I get lots of flowers, but never any fruit.

So true, but I've had misery with nematodes killing them off when I plant them in the ground. So I suffer with the pots, and prune to keep the watering chore reasonable. They sure seem to love the pruning. Might not bloom quite as often, but they seem healthier.

The second pic in Mkb's first post is Passiflora quadrangularis which does describe the square stems on it.

Just to remind you, this is the Brug forum, here . . . Passi pictures are most welcome on the Tropicals forum or Florida Gardening, too.

Hey, Mkb, could you sell me a cutting of Angel's Goldface in the fall, September maybe? I think it's too hot to be mailing cuttings over summer.

Elaine - I just had to pop on here and chime in. I agree with you about the bad nematodes here in the Florida soil/sand. I planted a number of Brugs in the ground after having grown them in containers. It didn't even take a year for them to all perish. Luckily, I took cuttings before they completely died. So now they are all back in pots (actually 18 gallon plastic tubs) and doing well. I just had to give it a try in hopes that they would survive in my soil .... but I won't do that again!!! Live and learn!

mkb136 - I love your passiflora vines and blooms. I actually grew a passiflora Quadullaris from seed and it was indeed a sight to see! Unfortunately, it was destroyed by some critter coming into my yard. Darn rascal bit it off at the base and it never recovered for me. Crying Your Brugs are beautiful! You grow yours in the ground here in FL?

My big noid pink putting on a nice flush of blooms again. Had a little battle with some spider mites, but We Won!! Hurray! Hurray!

I love how the buds are cream, and the flowers gain the pink color as they open.

Good for you. This is my first year with the spider mite. Horrid creatures. Took me two weeks to strip everything thing down and spray. What did you use Elaine?

Soapy water is the only thing that works for me, Rhaps. Two thorough sprays, a week or so apart did the trick. Gotta be really careful to get all undersides of leaves, stems, the ground under the plant, everything.

I just can not get the soap and water to work for me. Maybe when I get them under control I will try it again. This week I will spray again. I am at the 28 day mark suggested. I am using AKARI 5SC Miticide. So far so good. It will take almost a week to get them all done. Grumbling

I just happened to be browsing around a bit and popped in and saw this thread. Interesting about the Nematodes. I only have 3 Brugs, 2 in ground, 1 in a pot. The 2 in the ground do much better for me than the one in the pot as far as growth/bloom etc. I just let them freeze back in winter and regrow. The one in the pot has been pulled into cover during our freezes, but...no more. Too much work and I think it actually does them some good to freeze back and have that dormant period. At least here. I realize that's not possible farther north.

Not possible further south, either it seems! Mine never have lost all their leaves. They stop growing and blooming usually in December and January, but start right up again after the short 'pout period' when a cold night knocks them back. Last year, mild winter, I had blooms every month of the year.

I'm guessing some places have more nematodes than others, too. They don't seem to like a high organic content in the soil, so closer to the beach where there's more sand and less humus is their favorite place.

The big yellow, Charles Grimaldi, which has a huge lesion on the trunk and is slowly declining, decided to put on a huge flush of bloom just as soon as I had decided it was time to give him the old heave-ho. What can ya do? I'm going to get rid of all my huge brugs this winter, and start over with healthy plants in the spring.
