Took this pic yesterday of "Haworthia corner" of mini garden that's been outside since last spring. Apparently they can take temps in the teens (if dry.) The zebra one is a goner, but the rest look good. The bigger ones at left and right edges have bloomed since my last entry here, in Feb. Amazing for such tiny things, I'm hooked on Haws!

Here are the ones I grow:

Haworthia reinwardtii - my efforts to keep them upright proved futile, because, it is making new babies Big Grin

Haworthia mucronata -moving it to a little brighter light, made the leaves look happier, lighter shade and blooms appear faster.

Haworthia limifolia - this is my veteran Haworthia, has endured extreme heat, cold, rain, may have looked almost dead at times, but as soon as temps grow warmer, put in part shade, it quickly bounces back.

Haworthia emelyae - fairly new, just got this one early Spring.

Haworthia cupidata- also fairly new, got it in early Spring, am still undecided where to really put it, so it is staying for now in the mug. Big Grin

Haworthia mutica - it is growing in the same container as my Haworthia mucronata, but lately it got infested with some bugs, so have sprayed it with neem oil. Still 50-50 right now..

Now you've got me inspired. I'm going to get some established in the raised succulent bed. They will have a head start on being settled in before colder weather. Thanks for sharing your experiences! Hurray!

Hi Greg! Not 'happy spring' here, we went straight to happy summer. LOL

Most of my plants live in the greenhouse for winter. I only took duplicates and planted them in a succulent bed under the eaves of the greenhouse. They've done o.k. till this winter which had some serious freezing temps. I lost two of the larger aloe plants. This spring, both have put forth new plants from the roots. I had one aloe that survived with minor damage and tonight I noticed it has 6 suckers sprouting up around it.
The bed has Hesperaloe and alliums and a variegated agave also. I do have room to put a variety of Haworthia in so it should be interesting to see how they will do.

I really like the variety of Haworthia you have Tarev. The reddish color appeals to me on your H. reinwardtii.

Do you have any idea what is wrong with the last Haworthia photo you posted?

I moved mine out of the greenhouse tonight. I am running late and some didn't look too perky. Perhaps too hot and too dry in there. I need to remove some from the soil and see how the roots look.

Hi Kristi, I think some mites or is it scale..do not what you call those white ugly buggers..but it seems neem oil helped. The plant is slowly recovering.

Yeah, that H. reinwardtii's reddish color is so cute. Am surprised it has not fully returned to being green. Most of my other succulents that got chilled over winter are now back to full green.

I am not sure what the cause of the reddish hue. I've read that it may be cold. Some think it is the diminished winter sunshine. I have noticed on one of my succulents it is triggered by dry growing conditions regardless of the time of year. As with all things gardening it is a mystery and a challenge. Confused

Next to changes in weather being chilly during winter, at times, I observe my succulents doing that color change then dropping some leaves in its effort to reallocate its resources for some new pups or maybe new flowers it is trying to form. And looking at my H. reinwardtii, it certainly is doing some new pups.

It's some kind of succulent (yeah I know Planto, that narrows it down!), but it doesn't look like a Haworthia to me either. Something new to me, I'm not sure what to gander what that one is. Confused

Stush that's what I was thinking - maybe some type of gasteraloe or something rather than haworthia?
Spitz are the leaves stiff or squishy? I'm thinking if they are stiff that it probably is some type of gasteria? I tip my hat to you.

Very stiff, got em 2 months ago and the leaves grew maybe 1cm since with 2-3hrs morning sun. The store never restocked, will try to propagate the leaves this
week.

Well I'll tell ya, teens they may take...negative teens...well a few actually made it!

The big gasteria excelsa tough a beatin but they're ok, no more bladed leaf tops tho...

Even a fancy hybrid aloe pulled thru...

Thank goodness I had the good sense to keep almost all the haws inside on the window
( which they fit on soooo nicely!) instead of in the greenhouse which completely froze and died...

Now I've managed to acquire a couple hundred EXTRA nice hybrid haw seeds!

I'm so terrible with seeds but the temps are right so I better get to it!

From the look of things there should be some absolute gems in there!

I totally feel you about Haworthia! Here are three pics of my personal faves:
1. truncata
2. venosa
3. attenuata, fasciata, cuspidata, coarctata and I think that's a maculata in the upper right.

Welcome to he-haw ( or more often here...she-haw)

Thanks for sharing!
They all look great!

I only see one, either attenuata or fasciata, in the 3rd pic

Can we get more pics? 😄

I've never a truncata, they look so cool!

@tarev

That red is intense!

My reinwardii won't get that red, but it looks a bit dif...

There's sure no keeping em from floppin!

H. Reinwardii and H. Coarctata and supposed to the ONLY 2 haws that will tolerate FULL sun, tho it sure seems like most will take a lot more than they like!

Where have you been gathering your haws from?
Do you currently live in CA? I seem to remember you either lived elsewhere or currently live elsewhere...

I snagged 2 of the H emelyea off the cheesy Altman plants cart (death row) at lowes, they were mismarked, at 5 am I can't remember what ID was on them but it was wrong!
