Yes, this is the most common mix of dish garden plants. Good for you for saving them from their initial planting, which usually doesn't last long. The smaller vine is P. scandens (AKA hederaceum.) The variegated one is Epipremnum (Pothos.) The Dracaenas are D. marginata and D. braunii (formerly sanderiana, AKA lucky bamboo.) I'm concerned the spot on the table is not enough light for D. marginata but hard to say from one pic.

Has these plants been in the same soil for 4 years? The peace lily and 'corn plant' (D. braunii, lucky bamboo, ribbon plant) looks a little unhealthy, probably from a combination of tap water chemical build-up, and dense, airless soil. Changing the soil should help, a lot if tap water was being used. Avoiding compacting it tightly can help preserve tiny air pockets as much as possible.
Dracaenas are more sensitive to fluoride than a lot of other plants:
http://extension.psu.edu/pests...

The palm is Chamaedorea elegans. Over time, they can get much bigger.

Thank you Tiffany,

I just typed a long message and lost the whole thing! Grrr!! So I will try to recreate it.

All the houseplants are watered with tap water. I do let it set to gas off but it is not filtered. I will not buy water for plants. And being it is winter no rain water. Can I melt snow?

All the plants have been repotted/resoiled several times. But yes, the soil does get compacted. Besides the ones I repotted yesterday the others were resoiled about 3 weeks ago.

The Dracaena will be back in the sunnier den in a month after the remodel. I could move it to work I suppose. I am especially interested to see if the tops I cut off and potted up will survive. They have the best foliage!

The peace lily is not in the best shape. I have had the most trouble with this one of the plants. I thought the brown tips were from it being too dry in the house. But now I see it is perhaps the tap water. Sad Like I said it has never bloomed. I thought it was because it was too shaded. You should have seen what happened when I put it in full sun! Aaack. Quickly returned it to the dark corner. Maybe I need to find an in between light spot for it.
Ok I am confused on what is a palm. I thought this was the palm:

But now I understand this is the palm:

Yes, it does get big. I have divided it several times

Yes, in your last pics, the one above is Dracaena marginata. When it can get back closer to a window, the foliage should look a little more perky. For such a short time, a month, I wouldn't bother trying to drive it somewhere else. A lot of my plants are in less than ideal light for a few months for winter too. The palm is below. The plant with striped leaves is another Dracaena, D. braunii. The cut tips (of Dracs in general) are known to grow roots easily. Since they don't have any roots yet, they can't use moisture from the pot, then will start to use it slowly as new roots are created, so it could be an unexpectedly long time until those are dried out.

No way I'm buying water for plants either, I'd go broke. Distilled is very inexpensive, convenient if folks just have a few plants. Melted clean show is equivalent to rain but also more effort than I'm into (when I lived in a place where there was snow, not an option here.) If you have a dehumidifier, the water it catches is free of minerals or tap water chemicals, as would be the runoff from an A/C during the summer. It's possible to catch rain all year here, but I use tap water sometimes too, convenience, and sometimes it doesn't rain for a while. Letting it sit to come to room temp is good but won't help get rid of the chemicals like fluoride that can make plants ill if it builds up in the pot. As long as water doesn't sit in a drip tray, that should be something you can avoid by using non-tap water when possible. An occasional or seasonal use of tap should be fine like that.

Even if non-tap water is used, if the pot doesn't have a drain hole, or water is applied too often while the soil is still moist, roots can rot.

The last time I had one I had a tough time with finding a good spot for it too. It didn't make the trip from OH to AL.

In new soil, a little less light, look for plants to generally take longer to get thirsty if dry air/evaporation doesn't mitigate that.

Overall, these plants look pretty good, healthy. It's normal to lose an occasional leaf. Hope the remodeling doesn't make you too crazy!

Thank you again Tiffany! LOL The Dracaena marginata has always looked like that! I will certainly find it more light. This was the most difficult one to replant. It had a huge long root.

Thank you for asking!

Sigh, my husband got all the drywall done. Perhaps he will get to the taping/mudding/sanding this weekend. But I can't push him. He is back at work and they work him waaaayyyyy to much.

The plants are doing ok. Some of the pothos have dropped leaves. But plenty are doing fine.

Some of the cuttings of philodendron did not survive. But plenty did.

The striped dracaena original and the two cuttings are doing great!

My peace lily (not one I messed with) continues to look worse.

Our house is soooo very dry. I have to water pretty often.

update:
The initial picture I posted of the Peace Lily continued to look worse. I even took it into work and watered it with filtered water. Finally I gave up on it.

All the other plants are looking good. The den STILL is not done! So they are still in not ideal conditions.

The tradescandia that is varigated is going gangbusters! All of the purple variety that I had planted in with it died out. Oh well.

Update on some of those plants!

Dracaena spent the summer outside on south end of porch. What a difference!

You have quite a nice selection of healthy-looking plants, Jennifer. Where are the orchids? Whistling

I send a "Care" sheet with plants I ship out and on every single one I do my best to stress that if you can get your plants outside, even for a month or two, they will grow more vigorously and be healthier. I am a firm believer that Mother Nature grows them far better than we can inside our houses. All mine stay out from April till Mid-October/November. Unfortunately, I live in a temperate zone, so everything must come in to overwinter inside.

Wow! I stumbled onto this old thread! WOWZA has my houseplant life changed! I have many more houseplants now! Some came and went. Many came and stayed. Many were divided over and over. I still have the original palm. It is huge and has been divided once. I still have the original Heart leaf philodendron. It is the slowest grower. Practically care free. And I still have the original pothos or at least plants from cutting from it. Ohhh soooo many offspring.
