I was surfing the web looking at blue daylilies and somehow came across this page. Here is the link:

http://www.daylilynet.com/blue...

It contains some interesting information on hybridizing for blue. Mr. Jeff Salter told Mr. Gossard "to cross red and blues to get better blues." He did this and got some very beautiful blue daylilies.

This is Dreamy Blue Eyes x Tully Mars. Seeds I got from Judydu2 a couple years ago. I am hoping to get some first time blooms from Blue Wrangler x Blue Swallowtail this next summer so I can make the cross with this... plus a few others.

Good luck to you, Ken. Please post pics of your seedlings when they bloom next year.

@Terry, are your blue daylily seedlings posted above tets or dips?

Terry, I really love your daylily in the sixth pic. Will you offer that for sale sometime in the future?

It caught our attention from the first bloom. I had a clump this spring but somehow had two sibling seedlings growing together.
I dug it and divided it in single fans to make certain what I have. Hopefully all will bloom in the spring.
Here are more pictures of it.

I use it for hybridizing but am not sure of it's future since I am particular about performance.
I have purchased too many registered pretty face DL's that I call 3 bud wonders. I will have to evaluate this one a while.

Although I'm not specifically hybridizing for "blue", I do have some blue tones in my light lavender introductions. A very wise hybridizer once told me that you cannot possibly have a "true blue" eye zone if the petals of your daylily are a "muddy" color because the same mud that is in the petal is putting mud into the eye zone. That's why you see a lot of blue eye zones described as "slate blue" rather than true blue. So when I look at photos where someone claims to have a "blue" eye zone, my eye goes immediately to the petal color and clarity. I think to achieve a really clean, true blue you must work with flowers that have clean, clear colors to start with!

Judy, what is your opinion of Blue Viper by Gossard?? Have you ever seen it in person?? The pics on LA make it look very blue.

I hope virginiarose will supply one.
I will trade with anyone who has one as white as possible.
Any takers?

Since January 2014, no one had offered me a white daylily. Since that posting, I have bought "Snow Crystal", and "Great White Dove".

This summer I bought "You Got The Look" and I identified those in my garden that may help with producing flowers with some blue colors.

That is ok, Gerry. Sorry, I saw you post a bit too late. I wish you alot of luck with your efforts. In case you ever want a white dip to cross for a blue dip daylily, the offer is still open.

Karen, I thank you, and this winter I will look over my dips to see which one would fit in the combination.

I have not seen BLUE VIPER yet in person, Cindy. But I know Jamie Gossard has some really nice blue eye zones from looking at his other things. He is achieving great purity of color in both eyezones and petals.
