Wow! Lovey dubby That's crazy! How did it happen to get that much blue from a yellow LILLIAN KATHLEEN and from LOOPY LOO? That is quite outstanding what you got from that cross ! Genuinely beautiful, Fred!

I talked to John Shooter about the same thing and he said Loopy Loo produces lots of blue in seedlings. Lillian Kathleen is out of Miss Jessie 1956 an orchid colored daylily. You never know what what's in those genes.

Yeah, I know Fred. But due to lack of funds, time, space and energy, I'm trying really hard not to add another new element into my daylilies. I only have maybe a dozen or so dips, and most are older. But darn it, they just keep on getting so many beautiful patterned dips that I'm going to cave! Then you have some stunning UFs that are dips, too. I 'm beginning to think, MAYBE, I just want some of everything. Let's see, they spell it - ADDICTION!

I understand, I started with dips, got into tets still doing a few dips, now I'm back doing a lot more dips and less tets.

I need to get a pure white daylily to try to breed blues.
I hope virginiarose will supply one.
I will trade with anyone who has one as white as possible.
Any takers?

If you have seen the photographs of Gerry's indoor blooming daylilies the last six weeks or so, she has some nice ones. Smiling

I did a search on this website for bluest daylily and this thread comes up. So many interesting info on here. I am also looking to find the bluest daylily to grow in my garden. All of what I have is either purple or lavender purple, not blue. Bought a few seeds on LA that have parents with blue color and hope for the best a few years from now.

@professora, I have a nice white dip that is very fertile if you are still looking for a white daylily to do some blue hybridizing. Please send treemail, if interested.

It is white but not as white as Gentle Shepherd. Gentle Shepherd is not a vigorous grower for me so I don't have many fans to share.

Gentle Shepherd for comparison

I wonder if Pete Harry's new fall 2015 intro BLUE FANDANGO might be a good one to try.

Betty. thank you for the link. There is still some lavender in it but closer to blue than others that I have seen. Since this thread started to now, I wonder if there are any new blue daylilies introduced since.

Karen: I just purchased Lambertson's 2015 'Blue Pitta' because it looked so blue in the pictures. I hope I am not disappointed. His plants also do very well in my Northeast garden.

BLUE PITTA (Ludlow Lambertson 2015 Intro)
(Naked Water X Seedling)
TET Blue 5.5" SEV M Re 27" 3-way branching, 35 buds.
BLUE PITTA is named for a very difficult to see ground bird that I also saw in Thailand. But when you do see it the blue is amazing. BLUE PITTA has cream petals and sepals with a giant distinctive, gorgeous blue eye and edge. The outer edge is a crinkly cream. Green throat. Fertile both ways. Gorgeous kids!

Oh wow, what a beauty! Can you please share pics of its blooms next year? Would so love to see that blooming in your garden. Since soil can affect the color, I hope that it will show its blueness in your garden too.

Hybridizing for blue has been part of our program since we started and something that really peaked Ashton's interest in daylilies. I currently have several hundred seedlings from parents with some blue appearance in the blooms. Several seedlings have been blooming in our gardens and starting next spring there may be 500 or more seedlings with blue eyed parents. I have posted some of the seedling in past seedling threads but here are some examples:
