Lovely clear pictures, Ursula. I can see little 'fringes' on the petal edges on the Paph and fuzz on the leaves. That's a good sign of a clear photo.

The red on the Blc is gorgeous.

Thanks Jim! I could easily see myself at the next Orchid event shooting pics with this IPad!

We took the girls ( almost 7 years old) yesterday to the movies/HD transmission from the Metopera to see Rusalka/ Dvořák. It was beautiful and I think the girls liked it.They are beginning readers ( the translated libretto is always written on the screen) and with a little help they were able to follow the story pretty well. Surely Kathy saw it too in her local theatre?

And - here is the diminutive Phrag schlimii plant. I love it and hopefully I can re-bloom it.

and another small baby in bloom - Ludisia discolor is not really grown for its blossoms, the leaves on this one are really pretty.

I'm here drooling over the Paph. I don't even have any now as I just can't get them to bloom. Perhaps in the next life.

Jim, looking at Slipper Orchids in general, I find Phrags a lot easier to bloom than Paphs. I discovered today a beautiful spike on one of my kovachii hybrids, keeping fingers crossed that it makes it!

They don't grow Phrags down here. I've never ever seen one for sale.

The sun is finally out and the gloom is gone. Beautiful day here.

I took the plunge and snipped off a few of the reed-stems, with lots of long, fat roots, of my Oerstedella centradenia. I put them in 3 3/4" mesh-pots, but rather than using my usual mixture of medium Douglas fir bark, expanded rock, coconut chunks, and horticultural charcoal, I lightly tucked them in with a mix of medium and large Douglas fir bark. All the plants that I have came mounted on cork, so my putting these in pots will be an experiment. I think they should do well though, having lots of open space for air to get to their roots and the new fir bark not holding much moisture.

Bree, thanks so much! Don't ask me why, I always looked at this as Paph. My mistake!
I just looked it up, according to Kew it is definitely a Phragmipedium and gives Paphiopedilum as one of the synonyms.
I will edit my stuff here!

About Leontyne, the pauses between her phrases are full of energy so there are no breaks. It is completely fluid as a good water sprite should be!

Beautiful day here today and I have the doors and windows open to enjoy it. I hauled two yards of pine bark mulch this afternoon and spread it on some flower beds. It takes about 30 yards to refresh the beds each year.

I have my buying shoes soaking in a fire retardant in preparation for Wednesday's Apopka field trip. It looks like it will be just Elaine and me unless someone changes their mind. I can't wait.

Soaking in fire retardant? Big Grin Can't wait to see your loot!! And your weather sounds lovely!
…..as Ursula turns slightly green with envy…… Smiling We only had 1 inch snow this morning, but they aren't sure if the Thursday thingy brings tons of snow or is a washout.

I hear you, Kathy!! I listened to it a couple of times today ( as I activated the bluetooth loudspeaker to listen with my new toy!) Lovely!

Crying I sent you a Tree Mail earlier, Jim. I had to cancel out on you for Wednesday. Hope the shoes don't self-destruct before you shop.

Sad If you don't go by your lonesome, let's try again for the 26th? I have a guest all next week so can't break loose until the week after.
