Joygirl, are they your Orchids? I was wondering where you are located to see the Max tenuifolia blooming now. Very nice!
And yes, please - don't be shy to post into our running threads to make sure people see your lovely pictures.

The orchids are mine, and the pic is from last March. Hopefully they'll be blooming this March too.

Even better!! They look wonderful and now you are making me very curious what other Orchids you grow?
(I have seen your gorgeous Epiphyllum blooms….)

Thank you Ursula. The Epiphyllum was a complete surprise as I had no idea of what to expect for a bloom and was very happy
when the blooming erupted last summer. I have a little collection of orchids: paphs., phals., a couple phrags. (which are really hard for me
to grow). I also have several mounted orchids which I keep in the kitchen window as they need to be watered more frequently.
What orchids do you grow?

Ohhh, thanks for the help, guys! Smiling Glad you are taking the edge off for me! I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Joygirl, I would think by now I must say: tntm ( too numerous to mention)
I got hooked on Orchids around 1991 and I have been happily growing ( and killing) Orchids ever since! ( Killing is not only part of the learning curve, but they also simply die sometimes…. I think Big Grin )
Just take some time and peruse the threads on this forum and especially the monthly threads, to get to know us and our charge.
We hope to see you there chiming in and having fun. Obviously you have a lot of stuff to contribute. Welcome!

I am equally glad she did not ask me. I have no idea exactly how many orchids I have but know it is over 400. Not varieties mind you, just plants.

P. S. I have long lamented not building my second greenhouse twice the length. Grumbling

Yeah . . . but you know you'd just expand your collection to fill the space available, Ken.

I bought one at WM a couple of days ago............it only had 2 blooms left on it and it was priced at $8.75. Meh..............I can probably get it to bloom again. I've gotten 2 that i bought off the death rack at Lowe's to bloom again.

Hey Anna, that's a good price for one with a couple of blooms left! I've had good luck reblooming the death rack Phals from Lowe's too, but only if I get them in the fall, feed and coddle them through winter, and they put bloom spikes out again in spring. All my Phals had a hard time last summer, it was so hot and wet here. I only have one with a spike now, where last year all of them were getting set to bloom.

One of my death rack phals is almost done blooming.............it had 5 small "buds" on the stem. One day, about 6 weeks ago, I happened to see 2 more bloom spikes coming off the one that had the buds left. I've never seen THAT before, tho my sister told me not to cut the spent spike off. And it is shooting another bloom spike from the bottom of the plant.........6-8 inches long or so right now. I think I paid $3.00 for it last summer.

That happens all the time, which is why I tell people to never cut the old stem off unless it is totally brown, dry, and brittle, and then to only cut down to the green/purple stem color. You not only can get additional stems but also keikis can form on these old stems.
