There's always something that needs doing. That's just the life of a gardener, at least serious ones. I won't complain though. I could be shoveling snow! I just wish we would get done with this God-awful winter weather (much more winter than we are used to here in Mississippi!). My dormant plumeria are really pleading with me to get them out of their closet prison. LOL

Howdy folks! Have returned from vacation, finally shaking off jet lag..
Happy to see again the orchid postings here. Big Grin Sorry to hear about the miserable winter weather midwest to the east coast.

I have nothing to show orchid blooms wise, most of my orchids are barely trying to revive after being neglected for about 3 weeks. I have just one noid Phal with a spike.

But, I do want to share some orchids I saw during my trip:
At the airport in Taipei, they have this waiting lounge with a nice orchid display:
Thumb of 2014-03-03/tarev/3d270a

In an outdoor mall garden in Manila, a hedge of vandaceous orchids:

Have a nice day and stay warm to those in the dreary cold! Smiling

Wow, that is a lovely lounge for an airport. Perhaps some airports in America should take notes. I never thought of vandas as being a hedge plant. Isn't it amazing how folks from different parts of the world think differently. Thanks for sharing, Tarev.

Beautiful, Tarev. Thanks for sharing.

I just want to say "Ah Ha!!" That's how you make a Vanda look like a normal plant. Put it on a stake and wrap those crazy roots around the stake.

Just my opinion, but with something planted in front to hide the stakes that's a really pretty way to display them. Hmmm, I have lots of bamboo stakes hanging around here, too.

I just started a thread focussing on the interesting growth of Orchids rather than blooms
The thread "Orchids exhibiting interesting growth, anything EXCEPT focus on blooms!" in Orchids forum
Hopefully you all might add to this and start a discussion on the subject! Smiling

I was just now trying to take some pictures of a new bloom on my Potinara Redheart 'Neptune' with my Nikon. The bloom has that deep violet color which I always find so hard to capture. A bunch of pics later, I wasn't happy.
Tried out the IPad camera and the color came out pretty accurate without jumping through hoops. 2 tries, both are fine, at least on my screens.

Good job capturing the dark red color and that orchid is stunning.

I'm answering phones at the Extension Service today and at 5PM, I head down to the South Shore Library to give my orchid presentation. This library is closer to Elaine's house than mine. I hope to be home sometime after 9:00.

I always like this one, it came from Silva Orchids, I fell in love with this Orchid in the nineties, when the New York Orchid Show in the Spring was still at the World Trade Center. You walked down the steps and there was the Silva display with this one blooming just beautifully.

Jim, you are supposed to take it easy when you are retired?

Goodness, Jim, take it easy willya? Btw, I'd love to attend one of your orchid talks some time, so let me know next time you're closer to here than home, ok?

Beautiful color on that Pot. Ursula. Although floof has its place, I kind of prefer the plainer blooms as a little more elegant.
