We have enough to take to market tomorrow. Had our first one earlier in the week, Independence Day and Big Beef. Tomorrow we'll take Big Beef, Bolseno, Opalka, Sungold, Riesenstraub and Steakhouse. I'm very happy with Steakhouse. Large and full of flavor. We also harvested one kellog breakfast and one Stump of the World. By this time next week we may be sick of tomatoes! NOT!!!!

I have a Barlow Jap starting to turn and I am very anxious to try it.

Oh Arlene, you Southerners are such show-offs! Sticking tongue out

I picked my first red Matina yesterday. It's really tiny, even for a Matina, but I'm happy to know that more will be coming soon. I grow a couple of Matinas every year because I know they'll be early. DTM is, I think, 58 days.

I have not heard of that variety before. I'll have to give it a try. Does it have good flavor? I have tried Stupice and didn't care for the flavor.

I tried Stupice too, only once. I didn't care for it, either. I'm not fond of Early Girl either. I think Matina tastes good. They're little but tasty, and never have green shoulders. The short DTM is good up here, where our growing season is so much shorter than yours. Sad

Yeah, what Karen said!! Green Grin!

Arlene, have you ever tried "Djena Lee's Golden Girl" -- it beats the heck out of Kellogg's Breakfast, IMO (and I REALLY wanted to like Kellogg's...)

I do have a lot of flowers on the tomato plants... Smiling

Sandy, I think if i can get some seeds for Dejena Lee's Golden Girl I will try it. I'm the same, I keep trying to like Kellog's Breakfast.

Another good one is Tree's Bottom Yellow.

I picked a hawaiian pineapple couple days ago. It was so yummy. Kept seeds to plant again next year. Yummy. So sweet. Huge fruit. Sadly one plant had roughly 10-15 at best. :(. Next year i will plant 4 just to have enough to eat and give some away.

We finally have some ripe tomatoes!!

Received teeny, tiny tomato plants at a local swap back in April and have no clue what this variety is.
Looks like a smallish paste type, has 'regular' leaves, indeterminate. Any ideas? Thank You!

A fellow gardener brought tomatoes from her garden to give away and I received these...what's the name of the green one? or the small pear-shaped ones?

Nice gift from your friend, Betsy.

We are still waiting form tomatoes to ripen. The weather continues to be unseasonably cool, with highs in the lower 70s and lows in the low - mid 50s. This is just not right for July Angry Have tons of green tomatoes, but nothing even close to ripening except some of the Sophies Choice (a determinate).

On the other had, the eggplant have had a great year in spite of the cool weather (growing Fairy tale). Lots of fruit, and no flea beetles this year for a change!

We're getting a steady supply of Matinas (though they're especially small so far this year) and Snow White. Also some good little red cherry ones from a volunteer plant. We've only had 2 or 3 Brandywines so far. We sliced one for lunch today. One slice covered the entire sandwich.

Many have splits in the skin too. Too much water (rain) I think?

We're had a cool year, too, all year. Right now, at a little after 2 p.m. it's only 73°.

Thumbs up Jmorth!

Just picked my first Sophies Choice today.......still resorting to buying heirloom tomatoes from the farmers markets. Sophie's Choice is a very prolific determinate....lots of tomates are going to turn red at the same time. Nice size fruit for a plant that is not even 2' tall.

Next to ripen will probably be my Super Sauce tomato Once these babies ripen, we will be making sauce like crazy. I've never seen such huge paste-type tomatoes as these. And they are setting tons of fruit. YAY!

The Sophie's Choice is a first-time for me.....seeds from Sample Seed shop.

THe Super Sauce, I believe, are a Burpees hybrid. I purchased my plant from our Master Gardener's plant sale. They are huge, strong plants and truly--have never seen a paste tomato this size. I will try to get some photos to post.

Love bruschetta also. We do grow our own garlic--harvested 35 heads last weekend. It's so easy to grow. I put in a new raised bed for the garlic and leeks last fall.

The peppers are ripening, garlic is harvested, basil is still growing well---now I just need the tomatoes!!!!
