I'm not sure if it is Whisky Mac, read the descriptions:

Brandy: (yours has 40 petals and are in small clusters)

25 to 30 petals. Average diameter 5". Large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, cluster-flowered, in small clusters, high-centered to cupped bloom form.

Whisky Mac:

30 petals. Average diameter 4". Large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, classic hybrid tea, urn-shaped bloom form

Brandy is supposed to be quite thorny.

In spite of the HMF description, you can see from the photos of Whisky Mac that it does grow in small clusters and it does have more than 30 petals. Here's a photo showing both of these tendencies:

http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...

Brandy, on the other hand, is a classic hybrid tea and doesn't produce blooms in clusters, contrary to the information on HMF.

I'm not arguing in favor of either ID. I just want to point out that the HMF descriptions are often contradictory and sometimes false.

I don't think we have enough information to attempt a definitive identification. There's still a chance that this rose could turn out to be a floribunda or a shrub, and given the popularity of apricot-blend roses, there could be dozens or hundreds of possibilities.

Well...what kind of deal is that? False information indeed! I just went out and took a pic of the thorns and they look menacing, but in reality they are some of the smaller thorns on my roses, and not more than normal. That was one of my earlier questions , how reliable is the petal count. I guess it should have been how reliable is the information in general.
So Zuzu, should I check the rose in a certain amount of time, when would be best to find the necessary info?

Let's see how tall it gets. Your photos of different stages of the bloom are helpful. We would be able to eliminate some possibilities by the color of the buds and the quantity and shape of the thorns. I would say those aren't Brandy thorns, but you've only recently brought the plant back to life, so let's see how it looks after more time in your care.

Hmm. Those thorns look like the ones on the new growth of my Brandy, and it does bloom in loose clusters. Mine just finished it's first bloom cycle, so I can't get pics right now. The flowers are large, but not with a high petal count. I don't recall where I bought it as that was 20some years ago.

Umm...because A. I'm not a rose enthusiast, and B. it's on the west side of my house, and very hard to get a decent pic. with the afternoon sun blazing on it. It has a couple of buds at present, so I will try.

ctcarol,
Just thought, it might be good to get the buds, and the thorns along with the blooms, if that is not asking too much! Whistling

Give it a few days, and I'll try. The buds are still too small to tell anything.

This photo shows the truest color I have been able to get so far. The blooms are looking much better now.

Interesting! Here's a photo I took of Just Joey in June last year as it was opening, looking closer at some of the leaves on your plant some do look broader. I have some buds making now, we had a mild winter. I would take photos of the leaves if the weather improves, or maybe I can anyway, it's very cold and dull here today.

I went out to take photos, it wasn't easy getting the leaves as they were just a little too high and mostly pointing upwards! They have a purplish tinge but I think will green out later, new leaves are purple-red. My plant hasn't branched out much, and it's fairly tall.

One thing I did notice is there is only one pair of small thorns between the leaf nodes.

These I took of Just Joey late today in very dull weather using a flash, but I think it illustrates the parts well.

Thanks, I am going out and look again at my plant.
No new growth on the plant now, no really new buds, but I could see noticeable growth in the thorns.

Ok, I got those same pics of Brandy a few minutes ago. Keep in mind this rose gets pruned hard to about 3' every Jan, and is 20 some years old. I will try to get some shots as it opens and fades, but it's hard to get a decent picture due to the breezes and light.

It's a thorny one for sure, and while it is a Hybrid tea, it does have multiple blooms in loose clusters. Ignore the mildew! That's what happens around here in spring, but it will pass.

ctcarol,
Thanks, I really do appreciate all the trouble you have gone through. Yes, I agree it is really thorny, but it is 20 years old. I can tell the thorns on my plant are still developing, but I don't know if it would ever develop that many thorns, or if they just get larger with age.
My leaves look darker and broader to me, and I don't remember seeing that color of new foliage on my plant, I looked back though the pics I took and all I see is green! We'll see how your bloom develops.
Thank You!
