Great thread! You guys have been busy and making me look lazy, especially Jennifer with the rock harvest. LOL. I know that is hard work, but your beds will be beautiful.

I spent my day mostly pulling weeds and checking to see what was alive and what was dead. I had a lot of daylilies in pots and lost about 50, so I was tossing a lot of daylilies and using left over dirt to make planting pockets for my new hostas which did make it through the winter, I am shocked that none of them rotted. Not a one!! LOL.

I found a bunch of Heuchera that I got from SRG, I had re-potted them to a gallon and left them sitting there on the new bed. They held their color all winter and did not go dormant, also they grew. How crazy is that, I did not know they like cold weather but I do hope they can put up with some hot weather. Still thinking about were to plant them.

My DH dug up huge grasses from the corner garden, this is going to be a moon garden, it looks empty right now but all that will change soon. The small tree is a white Crape Myrtle and the small shrubs are white rose bushes.

I need to do more weeding in the hosta garden and see what is coming up where. I took a lot of pictures yesterday so I can review stuff when it is raining. Here are a few from the hosta garden.

Welcome! Good to see you, Virginiarose!

Your heuchera are larger than my heuchera!
Dare I hope mine will look like that in a year??
Do you think maybe it's the "sauna season" here that's been making heuchera hard for me?

I like a moon garden out by the street where everyone can see it.

Should I worry that my azalea hasn't even leafed out yet? It was also brand new last year and is not more than 8" tall yet.

I am SO SORE from yesterday and tired that I may have to have an after breakfast nap before I step outside! Hilarious!

Got my Moon Garden still in the greenhouse waiting to get big enough to plant in the ground .. this year it's Trichosanthese kirilowii, Datura inoxia and Ipomoea alba. They will be planted in the front bed by the street.

Thanks!! You are in zone 5 so it will take a bit longer for yours. I got those in the fall, they were in 3 inch pots!! LOL. I brought them up and watered them but I do think I have chosen a good place for them if they grew that much. They were under ten inches of snow the first of February and here is another snow storm not as bad on March 3. LOL. What a difference a month and a half can make.

Thumb of 2014-04-13/virginiarose/f3550dThese are some tuff plants, I need more of these. LOL.

Virginiarose,

What's the name of the heuchera in your 'new sprouts' picture! Nice bright one that should look great in a hosta bed! I like your curb garden! Looks like there's some birds waiting across the street for you to fill that bird bath!

Enjoying some rain right now, so I think I'll probably be lazy today.

Catherine,
Is that a picture of your garden? It's beautiful.

Boy, this thread really popped. Our snow is receding quickly now. Pond is ice free. I walk around every day looking for growing stuff. I see my foam flower is still green. I have two plants that I can't remember planting but they have little fences around them so I must have known I would forget. I will look at my database report by location and see if I noted there that I planted them.

My tiny yellow meconopsis are spreading in a shady garden. So glad. The big blue ones are rapidly losing interest for me. Really pretty when blooming then pretty much an eyesore. I still have a few here and there. Tulips everywhere.

The front beds are still under a foot of snow but very soon will be out. I planted peonies, iris, tulips etc in the newest bed leaving room for dahlias. Can hardly wait to see if the planting worked well. I wanted flowers from spring to frost.

Song, I named him when the Humane Society had a look at him to place him on the lost pet page of their web site. The woman who looked at his teeth said he was a year and a half and full grown at 9 pounds. She was wrong! But by the time I knew HOW wrong, we'd both gotten used to his name! Hilarious! Then I got 2 kittens from a shelter.

I'm so HAPPY I started something others were interested in! My threads often flop. Rolling my eyes.

I found a hyacinth I don't remember putting in my front yard. Will be interested to see if it's different from the ones in the back yard.

I'm glad to know somebody can actually grow meconopsis! It hates the heat here. What kind of high temps do you get up there in sunny-nearly-24-hours season?

A 9 pounder! Hilarious!

Mine was a scrawny little stray kitten I took in. He's my garden helper. He sometimes does excavation work, of course. I don't know I got along without him. Seriously - I love that little cat as much as any we've ever had.

Rose, those are pine cones not birds. LOL. The Heuchera in the sprouts picture is 'Tiramisu'. I thought it would look good beside Satisfaction Hosta but the hosta has gotten big and had the heuchera completely covered last year. I am getting ready to move it. I have two of them, great color!

Went back for more rocks today. This time hubby came with yard tractor and cart. Four trips and we got quite the haul! It was such a surprise because I didn't even ask him to help. I was so grateful!!! But now I'm on my own if I want more. The rest are smaller so not likely needed for my project

Our average temp is 55-60 in the summer. It does get to 70-80 upon occasion. The central part of the state is more like 70-90 on average. More sun. Really great growing weather but like most things that are too good to be true, their winters are pretty long, dark, and very cold (sub 20 quite often down to -50). Crying

Someone told me the days are longer in the summer? What time does the sun go down there?
